Does anyone know if it is possible to show up at the dock at the time a cruise is scheduled to board and if there are any rooms availabe to get a great deal?
I'm not sure that's possible anymore, due to security reasons. Cruise lines need to submit their passenger info to Homeland Security, usually a couple weeks before the ship sails. There was another thread on this topic a while back, with one guy insisting it's still possible, but living 1500 miles from a cruise port, I wouldn't know.

It works if you wheel up to the dock in a big car and flashing lots of cash and bragging about being a former senator, if I recall correctly. The cruise line immediately tosses someone who paid brochure rate from their suite and gives it to you for $40.
