I know - the cruise industry is getting some bad rep lately with the jumpers, the noro and now this. Unfortunately it's always the bad things that make the news.
For some reason the media seems opposed to the cruise industry. How many thousands of passengers travel without incident and all you read about or see on cable news is this stuff.
wow how do you guys come up with all these news stories..glad you did though. You could look at it like the news zero's in on the negative cruise mishaps, but on the other hand I see this as positive in that no one was hurt, lots of help came and not even a nose bleed. Most people see a ship going down and visualize the Titanic. Thanks for sharing...
I just read in a german paper that there was a death of a crew member during a safety drill on the ASTORIA last week. Apparently one of the cables that lowers the lifeboats snapped.
It seems to go in cycles. Anytime there is a plane crash everyone wants to know if it is safe to fly, now everyone wants to know if it is safe to cruise. My mom was a great traveller and when people would ask her, she always would say she was most likely to get killed driving to the airport!!

I wonder if a little grease would have saved a life? It could be inferior materials, improper technique...a freak accident and extremely rare, I would guess.
It's easy to figure out why there are more wierd cruise stories now...there's more people cruising than ever before!! And the alcohol consumption is WAY out of control! Sure I drink on a cruise...but whats the point of getting drunk to the point where you fall overboard? I don't understand.
