WOW, I just saw a show on the Travel Channel about a ship called "World." It is basically apartments on the ship (huge ones) and in order to get into one of them you have to be worth at least 5 million dollars. This thing is unbelievable. I have to buy more lottery tickets.

The World was delivered in March 2002. It is a small ship at 42,524 tons. The apartments range from 1106-3242 square foot. Larger than many homes! It would be great to sail on her!
I saw that also, very intriguing but of course the net worth needed to be approved, is just a bit outside my portfolio at this time. Besides, leave Minnesota? I may not live in bluff country but MN is a great place from which to leave for vacation, wouldn't you agree?
I also once heard of a floating city that was to be located in the Bahamas. This was not a ship and did not have the capacity to move. It had 10,000 ft. runways for big jets, schools, universities, golf courses. Here is a link to a similar structure. http://www.freedomship.com/

The World was docked in Honolulu when I was in Hawaii last March. Looked just like a regular cruise ship, and it took me a while to figure out which "cruise line" it belonged to. It wasn't until we were close enough to see the name on the bow that I realized what it was.

Chef Ken, you mean we have a professional football team, oh yeah I almost forgot. That game was terrible, even for the Packers. I have never seen such a boring game. Shoot, who would want to leave Minnesota in the winter, ME ME ME. Of course I shouldn't complain, no snow yet. I see the cities got some though. Im just glad I dont live in Denver. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

When I first saw articles about The World I thought, WOW!! That's for me! But after thinking about it awhile, I wonder if actually living on a ship wouldn't take some of the luster off it. I try to take two cruises a year, and for me, half the fun is the planning and the anticipation; but if you are there all the time, where's the excitement? And can you imagine the "homeowners association meetings" on a thing like that? Where are we going to go? How long are we going to stay? Should we hire a new chef? Who's really in charge? My wife says it's just sour grapes because I know we could never actually do it: but I'm not so sure. Would like to hear what some others think: If you could live on a ship year 'round, would you?

I might try it for six months! No, I agree with f-mattox, a good portion of the enjoyment of a cruise is the planning and anticipation. Besides, if you live on a ship where would you go for vacation?
