Hi, folks! I am NEW to Cruise-Chat.com (thank you, thank you!!) and I am looking for some input on the Deutschland. I have been a VIRTUOSO host and have had some extraordinary cruises around the world; however, I have not sailed on the aforementioned ship. While I understand and appreciate that it is not a product generally geared towards the american cruise market, I am curious to know how american guests are received aboard both by fellow passengers and crew alike. Furthermore, are announcements made in German as well as English? Any additional commentary would be most appreciated!

Hi Richard,
you are interested in my most famoused ship, the Deutschland?
It is rather otherwise than the big american ships, mainly the funships. The Deutschland is a grand hotel swimming in the seven seas, the style is like the roaring 20th; inside. The passengers are mainly german speaking. But there are often american or english guests on the ship. If this is so, the announcements are in english too. And you will get an english menu card as well. American guests feel well on board the Deilmann ships (beside the Deutschland there are some river cruise ships with a lot of american guests. And be sure, not all but most german passengers speak english. And the crew too. Perhaps you must dispense with the ice water for the first hour. But if you want so, the steward will bring ist every day; unasked.
Do not hesitate.

Have a nice cruise on the Deutschland.
Regards
Uwe

Hi Richard,

I haven´t been on the MS Deutschland yet but we´ve been on Deilmann´s river cruise ship MS Mozart recently. On our cruise there have been 6 English speaking passengers (all from the US). All announcements were made in German and English. There have been special shore tours in English for those 6. There were 2 shore tour talks, one in German and one in English. Unfortunately our cruise ended after 23 hours due to high water on the Danube river. I saw the hotel manager talking to the English speaking passengers informing them about the problems and how to go on and that was before the public announcement to the rest of the (German speaking) passengers was made. So you really don´t have to worry! All of the crew do speak German and English.

By the way the next cruise was promoted by Deilmann in the US and there half of the passengers were Americans.

I wrote an extensive review about our cruise on the MS Mozart and although it was some kind of non-cruise you can see how Deilmann is treating their passengers and they really did a great job! You will find my review on my website www.rivers-rails.com.

Raoul,
Uwe
