I was just wondering what kind of activities Carnival has on board. Do they have organized contests or games.

When I searched all I really saw was the hairy chest contest.

I am particularly interested in eating/drinking contests.

They have tons of contests, but I don't think they have too many eating/drinking contests.

However, they do have Fun Ship Fear Factor. Here is how it works (or how it worked on my cruise, at least) - they select a few volunteers, you have to do three separate contests, and they eliminate a few people after each round. For us, round 1 was dancing in front of everyone. Round 2 was popping ballons without using your hands ("fear of latex"), and the last one was a blindfolded eating contest. I got a big bowl of what I could only guess was a mixture of rice, grapes and spicy curry (for liability reaons, I don't think they could do any of the really nasty stuff they do on the real Fear Factor).

I'm proud to say that I won, got a trophy for it, and was featured on the cruise video looking like a moron Roll Eyes.

MiketheKid is right, not many eating or drinking contests, you may need to challenge your friends independently for those. But there is a never ending games/contests of other kinds. Read the Carnival Capers every day on board to find them. There are trivia contests, scavenger hunts, putting contests, hairy chest, knobby knees, air guitar, lots of stuff

I have never seen a drinking contest. With the exception of an un-official, non-sponsored one during spring break once. The Newlywed and not so Newlywed game is always fun. The Fear Factor that Mike mentioned, and won, was a hoot last year! As far as eating contests, sometimes it looks like the entire ship signed up for an un-official one. Big Grin

On my first cruise on the Festivale in 1981 they had beer drinking contests. Those days are long gone. They also had male night gown contests. Those are long gone too. You can imagine how those could get out of hand. All a part of Carnival changing their partying image. Which some people just don't want to accept they have changed.

That is hard to imagine. I don't recall them having them as far back as 1993. There is a big difference in having fun activities, and being a party line. They always have at least one late night deck party on the 5-7 night cruises. It is fun, but nothing over the top.

Gater, There are "tons" of contests as Mike noted. I have all of my Capers, that have the various ones listed. I don't have access to where they are stored this weekend. They have quite a few different trivia contests. And some physical ones as well.

If anyone can make a listing of the contests on recent Carnival cruises, it would be great.

In the mean time, here is a link to a sample Caper for one day. It is a pdf link, so you will have to "zoom in".

They called the one I won a "ship on a stick". Big Grin

It is a pretty neat souvenir from the cruise though.

My son won "Survivor" on the Carnival Conquest.
Final contest was eating dried meal worms in a bowl that the directors bought on Cozumel. My son ate them all while the other remaining contestant (a young woman) sort of hesitated (if you know what I mean).
He won a ship on a stick, a Carnival douffel bag, 45 minutes in a cocoon relaxation machine in the fitness/spa area plus some other trinkets.

Way to go Everyone! Thumbs Up

Very impressive Doc! I like watching the games more. I had made friends with the Asst. CD on the Holiday, and she pratically pulled me on stage for the Lido Trivia contest. I ended up winning. She bought me a beer after. Cool

Tom, hat's off to your son. I think I would have needed the time in the cocoon after that! Eek

Cruise Fanatic--
You are right about the drinking contest. My sister and went on a cruise January 1, 1984 and there was a drinking contest. Folks were paired up into teams and she and her partner had to drink a yard of beer. We even have pictures. I think we were on the Festivale. We had to go upstairs to another room to plug in electrical appiances - curling irons, hair dryers, iron clothes, etc. How far things have come - even with the cheapest fare!!

An excellent example as to why they quit doing those type of contests!

I am just kidding with you. Smile

If you are referring to Becca, she is definitely a hoot! If you go on the Holiday, you will become very familiar with her funny "yeah, Becca" banter during bingo games.

Doc, I don't recall her name, this was in 2001. She was an American, and had some connection with SC. I doubt she would still be on the ship. Which contests did you win all those "ship on stick"'s for? Smile

Trivia, trivia, and more trivia... I am a font of useless information. I seem to know a little about most things but alot about nothing. (plus, they seem to ask the same trivia questions from ship to ship. Blushing)

What you consider useless information, has been helpful to me.

I have never fully understood the Horse Racing contest. Smile

They have a daily eating contest!! See if you can keep eating all day long!! The answer is yes!

You know, they still have the midnight buffet, but we rarely go. We get all the food we need!
