Going on the Destiny in October out of San Juan. Big Grin (St. Thomas, Dominca, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua) Husband and I and my parents are all going. Parents want to snorkel and we want to do an ATV tour. Which is the best island for us to do our ATV's while they snorkel?!?!

As a long time ATV owner and rider, let me just give one small word of warning. I don't ride what I don't maintain, outside the United States.

Of course, this was Cozumel (not the ports you have mentioned) but it seemed like all 3 times we have been there since October, someone came back from an ATV trip hurt. In October, it was a young man across the hall from us. The ATV had fallen back on him when he hit a rut.

Now he was probably hotdogging or drinking (or both), but (especially if you don't have a lot of ATV experience) just be really careful.

If you must ATV in a foreign port, do a test figure 8 twice testing the braking, ride (mainly tire inflation) and manuvering abilities. Check for any oil leaks. Engine failure on a hill can have some bad results.

Ok, I am putting away the "Mom" speech!
Have a great cruise!

One of the best snorkels in the Caribbean is in Dominica, it is Champagne Reef. You snorkel over a volcano vent and the bubbles make it seem like you are in a glass of champagne. The sea life is incredible and you can actually feel a change in temperature as you pass over the vent. I do NOT recommend doing this from shore, but highly recommend doing a sail/snorkel trip. In Barbados, we always snorkel with the Tiami sail/snorkel catamarans. They do a great snorkel with the turtles and then take you to a beach for about an hour. The catamarans are beautiful and the crews are great. If you do the one with the lunch, the food is yummy. If you like spicy sauces, try the bajan pepper sauce--awesome. St. Lucia is a beautiful island, the last time we were there, we went to Pigeon Island and spent the day. The snorkeling wasn't that great, but the beach was and the fort was an interesting self-guided walking tour. As drlivingston stated, the pitons are a great snorkel. Antigua had way too many jelly fish for me, but the water was clear. It might have just been the time of the year, we were there last October/November we sailed October 26th I believe, so don't remember the exact date. In St. Thomas, have them take the ferry to St. John and the cab to Trunk Bay. There is a self-guided snorkeling trail about 50 yds. off shore. It is one of the top ten beaches in the world and the water is crystal clear, warm and calm (unless there's a storm in the area). There are all the amenities you need available. This is definitely the most awesome beach in the area. Can't help you on ATVs, we always snorkel in each port. Welcome to Cruise-chat, be careful, you may become adicted like the rest of us! Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!
