I'm new to cruising we leaving Sept. 8th on the Fantsay. I booked a GIS room and ended up with a room on the main deck. How is this deck? Was this an upgrade?
I was on the Fantasy in May. Nice ship but not one of the largest in Carnival's extensive fleet. They keep her looking good and she keeps on pleasing passengers. In reference to the "small upgrade", you have to understand that, yes you are one floor up, but your stateroom is identical in furnishing and size to the ones below you and above you. It's just a one-floor shorter distance to where you are going. All in all, you will enjoy the Fantasy and all of the chocolate melting cake you can stuff in your mouth.

i sailed the fant in thanksgiving last year . always get a window veiw. E deck and above are good below e deck is noise at all hours day and night ..i had kids running down the halls even at 2/4 am in the morning , wheres there mom and dads at ? i was almost to the point of straight arming them when they passed
The "levels" are Riveria, Main, Upper and Empress. (I don't count the coveted V Suites because I will never have one) So yes, you got a one level upgrade.
We have stayed on every level of the Fantasy class ships and have loved them all!!!
