Hi,
I'm booked on the Sensation on March 13, 2003 in Cabin R135. There are three of us. What is the "category" that everyone talks about?

Categories is how a cruise line prices a stateroom. It is based on size, location and amenities within the stateroom. Even though there are many inside cabins the location and size creates different categories. This applies to outside rooms, balconies and suites also.

I hope that helps you some.

The cabin R-135 is in catagory 6A, that is the lowest deck( Riverea) outside cabin mid ship. You are in a great location. You are only a few steps from the elevator. The catagories are 4A-D, these are inside cabins, no window...then there are 6A-D which are outside cabins, the lower the letter the lower the deck. It doesnt really make any difference which deck you are on...the cabins are exactly the same. You just pay more the higher the deck. If you think you might get sea sick, then the lower the deck, midship is the best place to be. So you have a GREAT! cabin.

On the newer ships they also have catagories 8A-I and these are balcony cabins. There are also 5A cabins which are porthole cabins.

Hope this answers your questions. Cool

Carol,

I am on Conquest in Sept 2003...1st time cruiser...Cabin 8293, mid ship, cat 8c. I was thrilled with this cabin choice, but now I am worried that we are too high and will get seasick. We will be on Verandah level. Your opinion please???

Hi Ciship,
Your location is really great. We were on the Carnival Pride back in September and we were on the Panarama Deck which is deck 8 same as what your are on,(except on the Conquest it is Verandah) midship, honestly with the new ships today and the stabilizers they have we felt very little movement. You will really enjoy the balcony. I know I sat on it every morning. One morning after it had rained during the night I was sitting out there drinking coffee and right after the sun came up I saw the most gorgeous rainbow over the water and islands. (we were in the Virgin Islands) I ran inside and grabbed my camera and got the picture. My husband and daughter were still asleep and by the time I got them up the rainbow was gone, but they got to see it anyway since I got the picture. Don't worry, you are going to be fine. If you tend to get a little quasey normally then I would bring along some dramimine, but as I said we were on the ship 7 nights during the hurricane season and never once did I feel sick, and I am the queen of nausea (lol).
