Everyone who might be interested, this one day Wednesday sale Carnival is running goes farther out then just September. I just checked the Carnival Inspiration 5 night October 14, Inside catagory 4A with an automatic upgrade to 4B total price per person including all port charges and fees is running $283.00/pp. $294.83/pp for the 5 night Fantasy doing Grand Turks for a 6A upgraded to an automatic 6B.
If you can get away for a quick get away then I would say call your agent today and get them to check prices on the special Carnival Wednesday sale going on and get booked. Don't know if you will see prices this good for a while.

Too, bad we can't take advantage of the last minute deals like this. But I did book my mother in law, her mom, and her sister on a RCCL cruise out of Miami for $199 (4 day) right before I saw this special from CCL. What makes it eve better was that I found air fare from Chicago for $132 round trip to Miami... so between the two, it was a great deal. That airfare may still be had for anyone in Chicago.

CCL Fantasy 1990
CCL Celebration 1995
CCL Victory 2005
CCL Conquest 2005
CCL Spirit June 2006
NCL Dream October 2006
RCCL Mariner OTS June 2007
CCL Freedom June 2008
CCL Holiday July 2008

Booked on Victory June 2009 - Southern Caribbean!

Carol, Thanks for the heads up. I am amazed at the great deals out there now. I checked and my Past Guest rate is still less than the one day sale for my cruise. I did see some inside 4A with bump to 4D for $229, Outside 6A with bump to 6C for $259, and for Past Guests $249. Pretty good deal for a 5 day cruise.

IslandCruz, You are correct the past guest prices are even better...I just booked someone on the 4 night Fantasy..cruise price 80.00 + port and taxes...in fact the port and taxes were $133.00, I have not seen prices like this since right after 9/11/01. I noticed RCCL also has some great prices right now.

My opinion, I think the cruiseline sales are down at the moment for this time of the year due to the horrible hurricane season we had last year...just trying to fill the ships and of course they would rather sail at full capacity at a lower rate then sail half empty. After all, they can make the revenue up with all the onboard extra expenses.

HI Folks.
This is interesting information.
I am already booked on a cruise the end of this month. Is there a good way to see about upgrades?
My travel agent is useless.
Should I call Carnival to see if they can upgrade me cheaply, or should I talk to them at time of departure.
I suspect if they have cabins that go unsold, they would be willing to make a deal at the last minute.
Thought/Suggestions?

Grant, first off contact your agent, that is what they are there for. Carnival will not discuss your booking directly with you if you are booked through an agency. You would not be able to get the great sale prices of yesterday, but have them check on the past passenger prices and also on the resident rate, both of these rates are still available. In fact before you contact your agent do some homework and check on the prices yourself. You can just call Carnival directly and ask them to quote you a price for the sale date and ship you are on. If the price has reduced then immediately contact your agent and let them know what you would like them to do for you. If your agent does not want to check this out for you, let them know that you will not do business with them again. (Even if you do not plan on using them again, you can still tell them this). There is no reason you should not at least get an upgrade or some type of on board credit if the prices have gone down and there is still availability.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Grant,

Welcome to Cruise-Chat. I want to echo Carol's post. And add If you are cruising the end of the month this is the perfect time to ask for reductions, move-ups, and on board credits. Your agent may be reluctant for reductions as cuts into their commission, but they are obligated to because they work for you not the cruise line.

Out of curiousity what is your ship and sail date?

We just booked a 4 day from Galveston with military discount for $350 for 2 oceanview. We jumped on it and they matched the 2nd cabin for 2 of our adult kids ... can't beat that, 4 people for $750.
