We will have a balcony room - will it be just as thrilling being on our balcony when the ship leaves or is it extra special up on deck?

The first few cruises with a balcony we stayed there because it was OUR balcony--something we had always wanted. But now we go up on deck because it is such a festive atmosphere--there is plenty of time for the balcony later.
