Deck chairs by the pool??? I usually get there early and get a good spot. However, I have noticed several posts about people reserving chairs. In My opinion( and I like to follow the rules) people should have at least one member of their group holding their spot. I doubt I would let someones flip flop prevent me from taking a spot, especially if the person and their family was nowhere in sight...has anyone else had a problem with this???
My opinion is that reserving chairs is greedy. If you are on a bigger boat, there are PLENTY of chairs available! More times than not, I'll see a chair being held all afternoon, and by the end of the day the people leave...or the other party shows up and states they changed their mind and went to the casino instead. Saving chairs is wrong and rude!
Thank you Steve. I couldn't have said it any better.
When I look down from the running track at 6 a.m., there are people putting towels, suntan lotion, flip flops, books, etc., on loungers to claim their spot for the day. These people aren't saving 1 or 2 spots. They are reserving a whole row. Don't these passengers have anything better to do at 6-6:30 a.m.?
Saving lounge chairs, IMO, is rude, inconsiderate and shouldn't be permitted.
I feel much better now. Thank you for allowing me to vent. A'ndrea

I agree! Therefore, If I get down to the pool at 8am and find some object in a chair, with no one around to claim it, The object will be moved. Why do I worry about stuff that hasn't even happened??????
You're right fredo. But, there are some people who are always the victim, even when they are breaking the rules. "oh man thats not cool" and other BS.....
gschon, On Conquest a few years ago, it was mid-afternoon and not a lounge chair to be found on deck. An elderly gentleman and his wife, both around 75 or 80, moved someone's belongings after contemplating it for a few seconds. I was sitting next to the chairs and they had been empty, except for towels, for a few hours. When the people who "saved" the loungers returned, the woman tore into this poor older man/wife so badly that I was embarrassed to be sitting there. I can't even use the words on this site to explain how this woman talked to this man and his wife. I was appalled at her behavior and total disrespect for this couple. I apologized to them and offered up my seat. By then, they were too upset to want to stay on deck. She was a classless, disrespectful cruiser. You don't treat elderly people this way. Especially ones who only wanted a place to enjoy the sea air, the oceanview, and relax. It was just unbelievable to witness.

A'ndrea - I have ran into that situation also. And moved our stuff for the older couple and struck up a nice conversation. I think it is rude as well. But, I like collecting all the towels they charge the chair savers for. I bring them home and sell them on ebay
Actually, I have had security take their stuff to lost and found before. I can see a reasonable amount of time to swim or restroom break. But some folks are just greedy I agree!

I thought about getting a towel for home that way.
I must say that some people would deserve to have to pay for a towel ot two.

Was I supposed to turn in my champagne flutes and beer steins? Gee I feel so bad. I'll go one further than greedy, it is worse than greed, it is a blatant disregard for other people. The chair reserved for hours sends a message that, "I don't hate you, I just don't care that you exist!"
Nobody post for a few minutes, I have to go to the bathroom.
I have to admit it... I saved a chair by the pool...once.
But, I did so by sitting in it. The chair was being occupied most of the day by my cousin. I happened along just as she was thinking about going to lunch. She was reluctant to get up, as she knew she'd lose the chair. So, I sat in it while she was gone. I even read part of her book. Come to think of it, it was the only deck chair by the pool I got on the whole cruise.
On that same cruise, I could have gathered many nice souvenirs during my morning walks. Beach bags, towels, a snorkel mask, fins, books, and a few stuffed animals.

I am going to agree with Ken's thoughts as well. psychocruiser, said it well also. It is the me generation. I would stop storing all that stuff though and put it on ebay. I usually get an average of $15 for those towels.
LisaP, I am in the market for an Ipod
Ken, Thanks for using the bathroom instead of the pool! I will save your chair

I take the towel of, dry myself in all my nooks and crannies blow my nose, then throw away,it worked on the nos and on the spanish costa in the 70s and 80s when the battle of the deck chair was a common site between the brits and some of our european neighbour, who think vacant possesion is 99% of the law, so dont stand for it lie on it, Regards steve
Psychocruiser, you are correct. Regardless of age, no one deserves to be treated or talked to in the manner in which this cruiser talked to these folks. I was slightly heated while typing. It's the Italian in me.
Steve, I think you've got some ingenious ways to get back at these "chair hogs".
In my opinion, securing a chair on deck is probably the worst aspect of cruising for me. Everyone wants to enjoy the days at sea, and when you have to walk the entire length of the cruise ship 4 or 5 times looking for seats, it's annoying, to say the least. I don't want to go back and sit in our cabin on a 90 degree, sunny, sea day just because people are rude. I'm sorry to rant, but this topic urks me.
Maybe someone, in any form of authority, will read some thoughts posted on this subject and there can be changes made in regards to reserving loungers.
Okay, I'm done now. Thanks again. A'ndrea

Andrea, that is when im in a good mood,if what you saw took place infront of me,I may have found it rather difficult to retain my natural love for all things that breath, that is why my wife insists on a balcony so I have my own sunbed, it does seem to leave these ingrates un-chalenged, good day to you andrea
