And agreeing with everyone else, you could leave everything out on the desk and you wouldn't have to worry about it being stolen, so why the "extra security step" of not using your S&S card.

Anyone else run into the problem that IBCRUZIN suggests?

Another thought I have seen on this board is to go buy a $10 or $20 international phone card and use it for the safe. At the end of the cruise, hand it to your steward for an extra tip.

I have no personal experience. I was just told that you were not supposed to use your current S&S card for the safe b/c it would become deactivated.

May just be an urban (cruise) legend.

To be honest, I would use an old S&S card and then leave it in the room somewhere out of sight. If someone wanted to search the room, they would find it but no one is going to do that. The stewards have a way of letting their managers know when they are in any particular cabin. Also, they are not allowed to be in the cabins with the door shut. The doors must remain propped open while the crew is in the room.

Well, I have used the S&S card for the safe on the Victory, Spirit and Conquest, never had an issue with it causing problems, so it must be urban myth (or maybe a new class--- the Cruise Myth) But I do like the idea of the hidden key. That way the wife could access the safe even if I was not there.. oh wait... maybe that is a bad thing? Roll Eyes

Actually, I think the safes are more of a placebo than anything else. I doubt any of the stewards are going to take something... better better SAFE than sorry (pun intended)

Yes I had trouble on the last cruise with my S&S not working in the door and then not in the safe, After getting special people to respond to help, they claimed that using the S&S in the safe can make it not work in the door. Sounded very counterproductive to me. We decided to use my Driver Licence. Which we hide in the room so my wife and I could share it. Even if someone found it they might not know it opened the safe.

I like the phone card idea however. Very nice and then use for the tip, Fantastic idea

Yes, we too have gone on cruises and were told NOT TO USE THE SAIL AND SIGN CARD for the safe, that it would deactivate it.
I appreciate all the suggestions and comments, I never thought of using an old S&S card. Great idea.

IB Crusin.... we too have been told on more then one cruise, NOT TO USE THE SAIL AND SIGN Cards for the safe, that it will deactivate it.
We also leave all our important documents, etc. in the safe. I've never heard of anything stolen from anyones safe or state rooms.
I really like the idea of using an old S&S card. Great idea.
Thanks for the ideas and suggetions.
