We bought 2 of the $100.00 certificates twards a future cruise.and depending on the length of cruise you get $50.00 3-5 day,$100.00 7 day, $200.00 12 day onboard ship credit per cabin. So the $100.00 goes for your down payment and you have 5 years to use them. They are 100% refundable if you want to cancel. Has anyone used one of these? They are sold only on 5 ships and they seemed like a good deal.

Heh... we bought 2 also. I think LHP said she has used them. I figured they were worth it. And surely we will use them in 5 years. The best thing is if for some reason you can't use them they will refund your $100. (Although I am sure it is not an easy to do process for that)

They are a good deal. I can't figure out which is the 5th ship they are offered on. I knew they were available on the Liberty, Valor, Freedom, and Splendor. Does anyone know?

What would be the purpose of them? Are you saving money?

Yes, you can save money. The certificates are good toward the cruise deposit, and give you on board credits.

Right. You are basically pre-paying your deposit and for that you get a OBC (size of which depends on the length of the cruise) that is free money in my book since you are at least going to be paying for tips on board.

What I thought I heard and maybe TimC can tell me if I heard correctly, was that the Certificate was your deposit (for 2 people) so you are basically only having to drop $100 for deposit instead of $200.

no.. the $100.00 goes tward your first payment. you still have to put down $250.00 ppr for a 7 day cruise or the amount they do for 3-5 day cruise.. then add the $100.00 to the owed balance.

It's my understanding the certificates are only good for the face value "towards" (not the total) amount of the required deposit. Then the bonus is with getting the on board credit. Now, there is some conflicting information as to whether the required deposit will be discounted at time of booking, or you have to send it in after paying the full amount of the deposit and then they credit it back.

One of you, Jim or Tim, should call them and ask today and see what they say. Well, actually you both should call and see if you both get the same answer. Smile

I found this flyer.

Also be aware that they can not be used with the Military Discount or Interline Discount.

But they CAN be used with all other discounts and you get it in addition to the Stockholder's OBC.

We bought 10 on the Freedom and have used 3 without an issue.

While the presentation may say "applies to the downpayment"....the earlier poster is correct. It is applied to the final payment...NOT the downpayment.

Thanks LHP! I think I added to the confusion by saying toward the deposit. Tim C was correct. They go towards payments after the deposit is made.

I am frustrated with this at the moment! I also purchased a couple of these certificates. I came home from my last cruise, and booked my new one and received the Welcome Home Credit, and now when I try to use my Certificate, they are telling me I can't use both the welcome home credit (which is $50), AND the certificate. WHY??? I am trying to fight it with my PVP, and am still hoping I can get both. Have you run into this problem?

Other cruise lines have rules against double dipping as well. You use the better of the two offers.

Hi lharry, Just curious as to when you booked the cruise originally? The reason being is because Carnival was suppose to stop honoring the Welcome Home Promotion August 9th 2009.
