After calling Carnival a couple times about my Sept.17,2006 cruise of which I had Deck 1(Riviera)cabin #1328,, I was upgraded to deck 2 (Main) cabin # 2293,, Second call to Carnival scored me a deck 6 (Upper) cabin TBA with the possibility of an upgrade for a cost of $30.00 than I paid, I have a $30.00 credit. That's the best news I've had in a while, now I am ready to cruise and afraid to call them again thinking they may return me to where I started and keep the 30.00 bucks. Have a save and fun cruise all.
On my recent Carnival Cruise, I was not a pest and was upgraded twice. I suspect that my very seasoned travel agent had a lot to do with that. As for additional discounts, again, my travel agent informed me that she had gotten one just before final payment was due. That was a bonus. And then, everyone on the ship was given onboard credits as we had a change in itinerary in order to avoid the worst of Tropical Storm Chris. Naturally, some folks, who like to spend their vacations trying to get bill adjustments, didn't settle for this. And, after working themselves into needless tizzies, they got additional money off. I had a great time, like the 23 other people I was with. Getting a few bucks back wasn't our focus.
Just wondering why you called in the first place? Was it just that you were unhappy with your deck assignment? Or did you have problems on a previous cruise? I guess I am just wondering... Are they just giving away upgrades for free? (or only $30?)

Hermy, I reason I called was to get an upgrade for my sister( was going to be a surprise to her) who will be joining me on the cruise( her first, with her husband to be), but I wasn't able to do it because she booked with a travel agent so I have to do it though her agent. But while there the agent(Carnival) told me the upgrade I was asking for may not cost me anything extra monies, she checked with her supervisor and gave me the good news. Now I have to check with my sisters travel agent to see if she can get her the same deal. The upgrades were actual upgrades from deck 1 to deck 6,,, with a $30.00 discount, so I have a $30.00 credit when I board the ship. Have a safe and fun cruise all.
I don't know deege's details. I can tell you this. If you book an assigned cabin directly with Carnival and the price goes down they do not call and tell you that. If you book a guarantee category directly you have a good chance of being "moved" up decks. They won't call and tell you that either. You will see it when your Cruise Docs arrive.
deege is probably being a "pest" because he knows on certain cruises the prices have gone down and "move-ups" are being offered since he booked.

Thanks... I have another question... I booked already. If the price goes down, I assume they wont call me. But, what if I call them? Will I get the cheaper price?

Hermy if you booked on your own and the price goes down, you are correct, Carnival will not call you, but if you monitor the price and the price goes down then call Carnival and ask either for the reduction or an upgrade. If you booked through an agent, sometimes they will check, but its according to how many bookings they have whether they will monitor it for you, but most agents do not get upset if you monitor it and let them know that you found a cheaper price, they will be happy to get the upgrade or reduction in price for you.
By monitoring do you mean checking the Carnival web site from time to time to see if your cruise price has gone down. Would love to learn how to save a buck or two since we are also paying for the in-laws for thier 25th anni. of course any money we save will problay be spent on excursion or ect on the trip so Carnival will still be getting the money ha ha
I assume was for Carol, but I will chime in. You can check Carnival.com for any new specials. I use vacationstogo.com sometimes as once you register is quick and easy to navigate for price lists. But Carnival can sometimes beat the onlines, because they don't always advertise certain specials. Mostly the biggest one..Residents Offers for certain states. So it pays to keep calling Carnival and check for the best deals.
I do want to point out that not all prices go down, sometimes they go up. Has to do with how well the ship and cruise date is selling. I can promise this, that Carnival will drop prices and offer "move-ups" untill the cruise is sold.

Do you think that there is any chance in the price going down beating a military discount? And should I call and check on an upgrade I got an inside room because of it being darker I like it dark to sleep but have since leanred they have some awesome black out curtians. So know I am think a balcony room would be great. I don't want to sound like a cheap person but like I said the money will end up in Carnival's hands anyway probaly.
You never know, and is worth the call. A matter of fact they are having a one day sale today. Going from inside to balcony is a big jump though. I did get moved from riviera to empress deck and a discount.
I just called because of the sail. I am sailing on the Valor in late November. I am in a Balcony room and they upgraded me 2 floors and provided me a discount. The discount wasn't much, but each floor saved me $50 each person. So I upgraded and saved $300 as a couple. That seems to work well for me!!!
I now have been moved up twice and discounted twice. They changed my rate from Residents to Past guests which went down. Since I have now paid in full they are giving me an on board credit! Now I have a free bucket of beer and a roll of quarters waiting for me-SWEET
I have a group set up and called my TA when I saw everyone talking of cheaper rates. The rates don't apply for groups and the rates I had were cheaper any way I was told. I wouldnt have saved any money. I keep wishing. I don't do a TBA I am getting rooms that are connected to a room my sons will be in so it is a little different.
You might want to pest some more. Mine just dropped another $20 per person today Since I have paid in full and within 60 days they are giving me credits now. Being truthful though I don't pest, I have access to their booking site and can check myself then call them, so is easier for me. But the rates are dropping on certain cruises and the past cruiser's rate is now beating my resident rate. It all will go back to them anyway
Islandcruz, thanks for that infor. I will surely call them again today to see if I can save me another roll of quarters fot the slots. 8 days away,,,,and I shall be sipping me a nice cold drink somewhere in the Caribbean. Have a safe and fun cruise all. Deege24
