Most of our cruises have been 7 nights, and our longest was 10, which we found to be a good length. Generally, the further we need to travel to get to a cruise, the longer I'd like the cruise to be. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way.
As far as the days of the week undies -- if you bring them on a cruise and fear forgetting what day it is, then Royal Caribbean is for you. They change the carpeting in the elevators daily, and each carpet includes the day of the week.
The longest I have taken so far was 8 days. Untill this year all I did was the 7 to 8 day cruises. his year I started doing the weekend (3 day) just to get away for a while. All in all I like the longer cruises.
Now I really would like to try one of the 14 or 21 day cruises.

I have found that any cruise that gives me a few days at sea is relaxing and enjoyable. I do need to add that the longer the cruise, the better I feel when I come ashore-cruising,to me, is the Great Escape!
I have to fly from Ottawa, Canada so anything less than 7 days is not practical. I am a new cruiser (2 taken + 1 planned). My first cruise was a 7 day and I was hooked from the start. Cruising is the perfect vacation for me. Only those that have been on a cruise understand. I try to explain to my co-workers and neighbours but they don't get it. (I consider this forum my support group for addicted cruisers). I have also done a 10 day and am booked for another 10 day in Dec. A 2008 cruise to celebrate my sister's 50th b'day will be a 7 day. 10 day vs 7 day, quite frankly, I don't mind which one, as long I am on a ship in the Caribbean I am in paradise.
I've done two 7-day cruises and one 8-day cruise. I liked the 8-day cruise best. I don't think I'd do anything less than 7 days, although I guess if I lived in a port city I would consider it. My husband and I are considering an 11-day or 12-day cruise next year, but we're not sure if it will be too much, since there are seven ports of call (!!!)

Cortney, my family and I are making a 12-night cruise with 7 ports of call next month. Most of our cruises so far have been 7 nights, and we've done one that was 10. I'll let you know it turns out. I'm hoping we won't need a vacation from vacation.
Since we are able to take a quick (5 1/2 hours) run to New Orleans....we have done a couple of 4 day cruises. But overall, I think I am done with those. 5 days at a minimum and since the longest we have done is a 7 day...I guess that is my favorite so far!!

Thanks to the U.S. Coast Guard, my longest cruise was 45 days.....but we've done Eighteen 7 day cruises and will move up to a 9 dayer next January.....and who knows from there....World Cruise??? and yes, we are addicts for cruising...4 days, then 5 and 7, and more and more...Gotta Love it......
I knew there was something I liked about you, Bob. Plus we are practically neighbors. I am a five minute walk from the Dred Scott ballfields. We will have to meet for coffee sometime.
Lisa, what cruise are you going on? Ship/ports? I'd love to hear how you liked it when you get back.
I'm wondering if seven ports would burn me out. I'm one of those people who likes being on the ship more than visiting ports, and I like it best when we're moving with nothing but ocean around us! At the same time, I hate flying, and the cruise we're eyeing (Explorer of the Seas, March 2008) leaves from New Jersey and hits a lot of the ports that you otherwise would have to leave out of San Juan to see...

Cortney, we're going on Celebrity Century to western Norway, including the Arctic Circle. So, not only are there a lot of ports, each is new to us and it will likely be our only time in most, if not all, of them.
The cruise you described sounds nice. The no-flying part sounds even better. You also avoid an expensive pre-cruise stay in San Juan.
Have you been to any of the ports before? If so, perhaps you can turn that particular day into an extra "sea day" and stay on the ship.

Heck, that was a "quick run" for us in the Navy, where a 6 month deployment was typical. Longest time at sea without a port for me? I think it was around 3 months.

I'll go for that! Finally replaced that Pizza Hut!
Is this the somewhat old Perkins chain which specializes in pancakes? Good stuff. And to keep thread drift in check, I will say that on a 7-day cruise I typically get pancakes once. On a longer cruise I'd say pancakes would be had twice. Although generally I find cruise ship pancakes to be unremarkable. But if I were on a 14-day cruise with Seabourne, I'd bet the pancakes would be great.

Since I had a 12-day cruise, I'm looking forward to find my "Cruise Saturation Point" (which is 13 + ... ). About undies, you'd meet London Mayor Mr. Livingstone: I heard he flushes his toilet twice a month.

Is my rambling noticeable?[/QUOTE]
Yes it is Dave, (Perkins) but they are known for breakfast 24 hours a day, now. They also have a section of baked goods and pies for take home purchases. Not upscale, just basic American food. It is a meet and greet type of place where people can chat and even "ramble" about lengthy cruise vacations. http://www.perkinsrestaurants.com/facts.html
