I'd like to know how the oceanview rooms are that face the rear of the ship. Is there a lot of ship noise or vibration?

Depends on what ship you sail. I can tell you for sure there are rooms and the back of all "Spirit" class and "Conquest" class ships for Carnival. I sailed in room 5170 on the Legend and it was very nice. No vibration or anything.

The one draw-back; however, was one night, we encountered some rough seas and when your cabin is all the way at the back of the ship, you feel it. Hope this helps!!

I've been in cabin 5270 on the Legend. Is that the one you mean? 5170 is on the port side of the ship. I generally prefer the aft balconies since they are more usable with better views. We also had a couple of choppy days where that aft cabin had more felt motion than I cared for.

Actually as far as noise and vibration goes, the enginees located about 1/3 of the length of the ship away from the aft end. So you don't get much more noise from them than if you were more near the middle bottom. The newer ships are all diesel electrical propulsion anyway (meaning the engines do not directly turn a shaft. This reduces vibration too.

Except for the sea motion Dave and Billy point out, you shouldn't have an issue. Some people perfer the aft cabind because of the view and the extended balconies.

A big plus for aft balconies is that they are rarely affected by winds, which can sometimes make side balconies less than enjoyable. Plus you get to see both the port and starboard views as well as straight aft.

Dave, you are correct, it was 5270. OOOPPSS!! Sorry.

We loved the room because of the ext balcony and views. We didn't hear anything from the engines either.

Some friends on Pride had an Aft View cabin and said they enjoyed the space, but ash from the Funnel blew/landed on their balcony and them. Is all I know of this subject. Oh, and if you get some rough seas you will have a Bumpy ride if in the Aft or Forward. That I do know.

We did have a little bit of ash on the balcony on a couple mornings. The attendant cleaned it up by the time we got back from breakfast.

Jane,

my brother had an aft-facing ocean-view cabin on the "Carnival Liberty" this spring. With the exception of the stern thrusters during docking maneuvers, he did not experience any noise or vibration.

Best regards,

Thank you, everybody, for your responses. I feel much better about the cabin - now hopefully the hurricanes stay away !

Not a problem. Hope I was able to help. Since I live in South Florida, I have been doing this crazy frolic (dance if you will) that has worked so far. It's not pretty, but as long as our "season" stays like this, I'll keep shaking what my Mother gave me.

Take care

We were on the Grand Princess E728. Would not recommend staying in the aft if you get motion sickness or are a light sleeper. Very loud and the shaking would keep us up at night. We also had some rough seas, a few nights I spend in the bathroom with my daughter. Needless to say I would not stay in an aft cabin again. The balcony was appreciated with the extended area.

I was in Caribe 744 on Ocean Princess (same ship as Sun and Sea) and loved the aft facing cabin (suite)

It had a HUGE balcony, wet bar, shower AND jacuzzi tub. No problem with vibration. Great suite.

My husband & I had the loveliest suite on the Carnival Destination for our 25th anniversary 2 years ago. It was cabin #6373 Aft corner with wrap around balcony. That was my 4th cruise & we did have more motion than I had experienced before, but nothing too bad. Some noise, didn't bother us. The view more than made up for it. I am not prone to seasickness however, so if you are sensitive you may wanna stay away, but it was just an awesome trip!!
