WendyO,

I did not mean to imply you are nuts or without common sense. I apologize for any offense taken.

Jim C.,

I agree that this is not helping Carnival's image. And I retract the friends comment, just because someone helps you on a bulletin board does not make them a friend.

My thinking about the credit card vs. their own finance company was less impact if they decided to just not pay it. They could dispute it untill the statutes were up. A US based big bank visa issuer would carry more weight for non-payment on a credit report.

I think they do this on purpose at sea, and are getting credit cards for the very reason to avoid the law.

Here is a link to the law.

WendyO- that is great news! ThumbUp Sounds like you took the correct steps in time. Granted it was a lot of work on your part, but better than the alternatives.

IslandCruz- I never said I wouldn't consider you a friend. If I said something to offend you, there certainly was no intention to do so. But realize that the written word is void of the clues we get during conversation on if we are "serious" or just making a joke. (Except for the emoticons Razz

There are many people on Cruise Chat that I would consider a friend even though we have never met. But with as much "chatting" as we do, you can't help but consider them as friends. It would be no different than all of use being assigned to the same dinner table on a cruise and talking through out the cruise. By the end of the trip... you are exchanging contact information ... same thing here.

My daughter and I was scheduled to listen to the spiele right after lunch the first full day on the cruise. We were taken to a elaborbately decorated meeting room and was told this was where more exclusive candidates were meeting. We had noted that other groups were being "pitched" in groups of 2-3 in the general lobby area. With the pre-screening questions, they asked what my cabin number was, so they knew ahead time the type of cabin and accomadations we had. Diana, my daughter, volunteered the information that I've cruised many times before. So that gave CVC the information that I was a likely target. They gave us endless mimosas as we waited to get started.

I'm not a math major and that's where I got tripped up. The point system into dollars didn't hit home until I read this web-site. Then I read about all the other problems. I admit, I was on vaction and I didn't read all the small print of the contract. Tracy, the CVC rep was so nice! She promised things that wasn't true at all! I specifically wanted a European CRUISE and she agreed that would be nice; then I read in the contract that the Carnival European cruises are excluded from the club points!

I admit I was stupid for not reading the contract at the time I signed it, but that is something I'm GUILTY for at my own job. I'm a nurse and so many times I have to have patients signs surgical consents. I tell them, "I know your doctor has told you everything that about your surgery and the possible complications (by law the doctors have to disclose the information), this is the consent for your surgey to sign". People always sign without reading it first. Did you know one complication that is always stated in those surgical forms is DEATH?

We trust nice people and the CVC people were very nice; especially to me when I was on vacation. Having some mimosas with my daughter didn't help the situation. Diana just saw several more vacations coming her way if I joined "the club". Anyway, that's how I got suckered in. My next cruise is in January. I plan to be more careful.

Anyway, 3 more cruises and I'll be platinum! I don't need CVC.

You are so right. (not about the nuts part) About CVC being slicker than owl ...well you know! Congrats on being Platinum soon!!!!

I always get "slammed" by the CVC cheerleaders because I did not actually sign the contract.
Then these cheerleaders want to tell the other 75% of the folks that did sign (and are furious at being lied to) that any errors on CVC's part is all in their heads.

Well, now they have Wendy O to deal with! ; )

I would pay BIG money to be a fly on the wall if a CVC agent ever approaches you on a cruise!!

Wow
I did the presentation on the pride in 2005 and i am now glad that I did not purchase it. I would like to know if there is anyone brave enough to say if they have had a good experiance with CVC.
I personally did not think that is was all cracked up to be at that time. I agree that it is sad to see Carnivals name dragged throught the mud like this

Thank you to everyone who posted their experiences regarding the Carnival Vacation Club. My husband and I just disembarked off of the Carnival Miracle yesterday and we, too, signed up for the Vacation Club. We were experiencing some buyers remorse for spending $5k on prepaid vacations, which led me to research the club. Thankfully, we are still within the 3 days from disembarkation and, based on the feedback we have read, the cancellation notice has been typed and will be priority mailed tomorrow to our "friends" at Solutions at Sea. Plus, I am calling American Express to dispute the charge. We can't thank you enough for posting! Now I can only hope for a relatively quick refund Red Face).

I don't think anyone has a problem with the idea of prepaid cruises and the benefits that do come with them.

I have said many times that IF you are the kind of person who wants VIP Check In and Debarkation enough to spend a minimum of $1,000 (the least amount of money you lose on this deal) for it....then by all means they should go for it.

All I have ever advocated was that this program be sold honestly. As long as people know that all they are truly getting for this loss of $1,000 is VIP Check In/Debark and a party (on the CVC ships only) then they can make an informed decision on whether it is right for them.

Personally, VIP Check In/Debark was never that important enough to me to spend that kind of money to get it. (but then I am a Platinum member, so I already get it) But to someone who feels like they must have it to cruise, then CVC is cheaper than having to buy a Cat 11 or 12 on every cruise. A person will spend more on a Cat 11 or 12 every time than the $1,000 they lost purchasing a CVC package.

But it is time that people were aware that when all the dust settles...basically what they are getting for the loss of that $1,000.00 is VIP Check In/Debark,...and a party.

They are not getting things they have been promised like cheaper cruises, guaranteed upgrades and 7 days at 5 star resorts.

The cruises are not any cheaper.
The upgrades don't happen any more than the normal cruiser gets.
The 7 day 5 star resorts can be had for the same "low price" by anyone off the streets IF (and this is the big IF) you can find a date available.

And you are correct. Carnival's name is being degraded by this. I would not be surprised to see a change in the CVC came to "Cruise Vacation Club" in the near future.

Make sure you follow all the procedures to the letter. I don't believe you will have a problem, as long as you do that.

We leave on the Miracle on Sunday and I have already warned everyone on our Roll Call on another board to beware!! We have a lot of first time cruisers.

Very good point, you are right. If it is worth the money to you then giver. If it is not then I would say that the CVC is not for that person. I am not yet Platnium and I can say with out a doubt I would rather pay for a Cat 11 or 12 and get the room then do the vacation club. I also agree that if everyone knows what the club is really about then I would suggest that is will not be worth money to them, there lyes the problem with this club is it is missleading people to belive one thing when they are really getting another.

Glad you are eager to enjoy it.

Some tips for getting the most "bang for your points" from someone who "claims" *(and I am just taking him at his word) that he has gotten 4 cruises out of the $5,000.00 package for he and his wife.

1. Always book a 1a or 4a GTY during the off season. Then hope for the upgrade, but don't be disappointed if you don't get it.

2. Remember that you still get the VIP Check In/Debark even on cruises that you don't use points for. I have read of a couple of CVC members who use their points for their "every day" cruises and pay cash for the ones where they want to make sure they have a balcony.

3. Even after you have used all your points up (if you are still with in the time frame in your contract) and you pay cash for a cruise...you still get the VIP Check In/Debark.

4. Where the resorts are concerned...someone on these boards wrote about a week in Aruba that is usually open every September (which a lot of folks don't know about). So keep that in mind, if you have a problem booking something out of the US.

Happy Cruising!!

That is what bothers me the most. If a company is not willing to sell you their product honestly, then why would you want to do business with them?

The CVC manager on the Pride (sorry his name escapes me at the moment) when we sailed her in March, did tell me that they had "changed their program". He approached me on the Pride and I told him we were not interested. I told him we had already gotten the information on the Spirit. And that is when he told me the "program had changed". We will be on the Miracle and if I get bored...we may just sit through it again just to see if they are still misrepresenting the program.

LHP-

Cruising time is too precious for me to want to waste it listening to their sales pitch.

Even if they became completely honest and sold the program as we have been describing it, I still don't think it would be worth it, so why sit through the speech. Unless you can manage to sit in on the "group" presentation and ask very pointed questions about it so as to warn off the others in the group. (You know.. a public service)

Well I'm not feeling so hot about purchasing CVC now. Note to self, disregard airline tickets, cross fingers on resorts. Enjoy the hell out of perks I apparently paid extra for. I haven't used any points yet, we plan on booking a cruise tonight. We did a few comparisons like others and came to the same conclusion. Okay, so maybe we over paid for this thing but having said that I'm not going to worry to much about it now. Like when the wife had a little accident with the car. Whats done is done and I'm personally not going to let it bother me. I was reading everybodies post and kicking myself for this purchase. Lesson learned!

Fortunately we live in Florida and are close to 4 ports and a number of the resorts. Hopefully I can strategize enough to get the value out of it. We did enjoy the waiting in the lounge to get off rather then in line though. Must remember to fill my pockets with free breakfast next time.

CableCruiser-

Living in Florida you may be able to make it worth the money. Use your points for short cruises to build up to your ten cruises needed to get the perks automatically. Like you already stated, the air tix and the resorts will be a crap shoot as to if you can get those as promised.

Like you said- what's done is done. You are probably not OUT any money, it just isn't the great deal they make it seem to be.

Jim: The only way I would do it is if they are still offering $50.00 OBC to sit through the talk, as some have been reporting that they do from time to time.

I like your public service announcement idea!!
Can you imagine the "hyms and haws" that would go on if someone asked them if anyone has had problems booking those 7 day resorts WHILE they saw someone video taping the session???

Seriously, the morning of the debarkation, they put all the CVC (old and new) members in the same room with the Platinum members for the VIP Debarkation. Perhaps I should have some little business cards printed up to hand out with

www.cruise-chat.com AND search "CVC" before your 3 day cancellation period expires

printed on them...

OK _ Here's another person SCAMMED by Carnival Vacation Club. We also were told things that were blatent LIES to get us to join. First of all - the "Club Supervisor told us that they owned all the dot.com sites (Ex. Vacationstogo.com, Cruise.com) and therefore they could and always would have cheaper prices. He told us that if we found a cheaper price that the "Club" would match it or do better. Wrong! My first call to book a cruise using our points and we were told that Carnival Vacation Club could NOT meet Vacationstogo.com prices, or anyone elses! He also told us that all the "Perks" could be used on all the ships - We specifically told him that we prefered Princess and that we were buying this just for Princess cruises. Well, after calling CVC we were told that you only get "perks" on Carnival ships - not the others...
I just don't know why he misrepresented (LIED!) the Club to us to get us to buy...?
We are also from South Carolina and we were asked to put another state down on the form. He told us, "Don't you know someone from another state that you could use their address?!" That should have sent up 'Flags' right then and there! But we were so caught up in the (Stupid!) moment and rushed to sign I might add because our salesperson had to do meet with someone else that we believed what they were telling us.
DON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY TELL YOU - THEY ARE LIEING!
