Since I’m not a parent, I’m not quite sure how I would feel about letting my 19 year old kid have a few beers. But, just to be fair, I want to point out that age does not necessarily dictate how someone will act after drinking. I’ve worked at a bar, and been around alcohol long enough to see plenty of “mature” adults acting like complete morons after a few too many cocktails – throwing up, fighting, driving, being destructive and all other sorts of stupidity. I also agree that inexperienced drinkers and a party attitude can lead to disaster more easily (I have plenty of stories about myself that prove that haha). Just letting everyone know that the younger crowd isn’t always to blame.
Now that I think of it, it remind me of my last cruise (like I said, I was 19 at the time). One guy, who had to be 35-45, was hammered the entire trip, and was going around trying to kiss EVERYONE, including myself. He must have done some other stuff, because he spent a night in the brig, and was eventually thrown off at one of the ports. Sucks to be him. That story wasn’t so much meant to further my point, more that my point reminded me of that story haha.

I whole heartedly agree with you Mikethekid; having volunteered at the winery for 7 years, I have seen a few really stupid "mature" adults. Heck, I was able to oversell the heck out of an ugly 40 year old drunk...he was potted, loud, obnoxious, and bringing the whole tasting room down. His wife was stone cold sober and told him they had enough wine and didn't need anymore. He really liked one of the futures I was serving. After she left to get some food out back, I asked him who wore the pants in his family. He then slurred "wheeeere do I buuuuy wiine (burp)? I pointed him in the direction of the cashier. He was signing the credit slip on a case of wine ($235 worth) just as his wife returned. Heh, heh, heh.
I have also seen many youthful consumers acting perfectly responsible and appropriately in the tasting room environment.

funny that you mention wine tasting, GC...myself and 9 others will be touring a bunch of wineries (sp?) in the Finger Lake region of NY this weekend....we've done it once before, and its alot of fun...we rent a limo, so no one needs to drive, and it takes us from winery to winery where we pay around $1 at each stop to taste about 5 wines...im not a wine snob, and know very little about wine, but its a great time...we ususally end up somewhere between "well behaved adults" and "pleasantly tanked", but not quite at "obnoxiously drunk" (hopefully )
oh man, thread drift....uh, this clearly relates to cruising because the ships all serve WINE, which we can all TASTE, and some people (young and old) get drunk....phew, that was a close one

The problem with teens drinking is one thing... The problem with teens drinking on a cruise ship is a whole different issue altogether. First you have the unfamiliar area that caters to funloving lifestyles. Second, the unforgiving sun beams down on them all day only furthering the effects of the alcohol. Then you have the total loss of inhibitions rendering them to "bulletproof" attitude. I have done it before when I was young so I am not trying to be a hypocrit. I just have seen the damage done first hand and thank God every day that I have the ability to make better choices.

G.C., My husband and I toured the Finger Lakes regional vineyards a few years back on our way home from Niagara Falls. Now, I know it's not the most elite wine, but one of our stops was at Bully Hill Vineyards. We had an absolute blast in the tasting room. I purchased their table wines just for the labels. "Love My Goat" is my favorite design label.
My personal favorite to imbibe... Pouilly Fuisse.
