Im leaving in a few weeks for a cruise and my teenage son are very excited about maybe beening able to drink for the fisrt time since they are 18 and 19...what are the regulations on alcohol for them?
On the ship, they are going to be disappointed. 21 is pretty much the rule. I am not saying that they won't be able to find a rogue bartender that is sympathetic to their plight. When at a port, they will have better luck scoring some liquid libations.

Now does anyone know the regulations for bring Alcohol back on to the ship, because one of our stops is San Juan and I have many friends that would like some authentic Puerto Rican rum.
I believe that is 2 liters per adult. The trick there is if you are flying. It needs to be packed in your luggage since liquids are pretty much banned from flights. Almost not worth the savings or the leakage, although I brought back a few bottles on our last cruise.
Correction on my post. There is no limit as to what you bring aboard, although they will confiscate it until your last night aboard. As for my 2 liter comment, you can bring more, however you will pay duty on that. You still have the problem of getting it home if you are flying.
Carl is correct. You can pretty much bring whatever you want back on the ship. It will be confiscated as soon as you go through the security line to enter the ship and they will give it back to you the night before debarkation. Also, if you intend to fly from wherever the termination of your cruise is, make sure the alcohol is in your checked luggage and not your carry on. Otherwise, this time it will be confiscated without a happy ending. That afternoon, a couple of security guards and luggage handlers will be enjoying happy hour at your expense.

as for finding booze more easily while at a port, i have some experience....i was 19 on my last cruise, which meant i was allowed to have beer, but no hard alcohol
however, at one of the ports (forget which - costa maya maybe?) we went on a beach party excursion that included an open bar (which, by the way, was a pretty sweet trip)...not only did the bartender not have any problem serving me tequila slammers, he also had no problem serving my 17 and 15 year old sisters

Dude, I really don't have a problem with a 19 year old guy having a few drinks but when it starts to get younger than that, the whole Natalee Holloway thing seems to reverberate in my subconscious.

ugh, gross...i know we have alot of southerners here, but up in NY we dont do that...and that was a joke, because its bound to offend someone
but, when i was at the bar that time, there were a bunch of 40 year old ladies celebrating their recent divorces, and each shot seemed to make them care less about my age...i think i got out of there just in time

Click HERE. No limit, except for the duty you'll have to pay above the stipulated amounts.

Did you mean "absent" then rather than lenient? I know, you probably want to be their friend. I got to be my kids friend after I took responsibility to raise them first.
Re: the teen drinkers. Maybe I am old fashion, but I wouldn't be encouraging young people to drink at all. When you are home, do you also let your kids drink. Please let me know so I can stay out of their way when they decide to drive somewhere. The cost, physically and mentally is not worth it. Lastly, does anyone remember the newlyweds who got drunk and he went overboard. Bet she was wishing they had stayed sober. Keep in mind. You don't have to drink to have a great cruise. Sherry
