My husband has an honorable discharge from both the Marines and the Army and we used his DD-214 to save about $500 on our cruise we took in May to the bahammas and we are using it again for our cruise in Oct. and taking my parents along and they too get his discount. We also have a cruise on the Glory scheduled for june of next year and we are taking my parents again and 5 other children and we ALL get the discount you can get the discount on usually 3 rooms. So thats something else you can look forward to with Carnival and I am pretty sure the discount is on every cruise because we have nice cruises set up and were never told we couldnt use it on that cruise!
Hi. We are taking our first Carnival cruise over New Years this year. It is a short baja Mexico cruise. They asked me if I was a veteran, I am, USAF 6 years. Was I pleasantly surprised to get a discount. I just had to fax them my DD214. Wow, thats cool, you got the discount for everyone. Lil' Lori
Hey, I'm a veteran, too. I wish I had known about the discount for our recent cruise. And I keep my DD214 handy! Oh well, I'll definately ask about it next time.
Fivepoints, you should be able to call and they should make the adjusttments, i just faxed in a copy of my dd-214 and they made the ajustments right then. so give ur pvp or ta a call.Good luck and happy sailing!!!!
DH is retired after 22 yrs in Navy....we saved over $500 each on our balcony cabin a couple weeks ago. We booked the same ship again through our PVP at Carnival in Sept for $649 pp guarantee balcony. Then I saw a 1 day deal for transferring a booking to a travel agency online and received a discount of $98, making our balcony room for 8 nights only $599 pp........wahoo! Carnival does have some of the best military discounts around!

Carnival is the only cruiseline that offers the military discount to those who have served 2 or more years honorably. You are only allowed to book one room with the discount and the military veteran must travel.
At certain times, Carnival will offer the "Friends and Family" program where you can book two additional cabins at a slightly higher rate than the military discount.
Not all sailings have the military discount and it is capacity controlled. Basically if all the allotment is gone, then no discount.
Dont forget to have your TA check the rate against the past passenger or residency rates as sometimes these are lower. The MIL and PastPAX rates can drop before the cruise so it pay$ to check.
Our 5-day cruise on the Holiday this Sept 11 is $600 for two people in an OV GTY. We got upgraded two categories so we are in a 6C cabin. Dave (USMC)
Not so sure the vet must travel. My mother and my daughter (staying in my mother's cabin) were able to get a military discount based on my father's service. My father is deceased, so therefore.. not able to do the traveling. Don't know for sure if they will still gives vet widows the discount, but all we needed was his discharge papers and a copy of the death certificate for her to get it. For some of you, that may be worth asking about if you are in that situation.

I think it depends on your cruise consultant @ the cruise line is and the line traveling. My cruise consultant asked if I served in the military. I told him that I served in the reserves only with no active duty time except for training, which doesnt count as active duty time. I served 6 years in the PA National Guard. I sent Carnival a copy of my DD214 and Honorable Discharge Certificate upon booking the cruise. A week later a Supervisor approved my military discount of $300.00 total for the cabin. I have been told numerous times that this is unusual!
I don't find it unusual at all that they honored a DD214. What I find unusual (but typical of their reservations) is that they obviously don't know anything about the military. Your 2weeks training each year, plus your weekend training adds up to retirement time. Had you stayed in long enough you could eventually have earned enough points for retirement from the military. And they say that doesn't count? They better think again. Which is why when you sent in the DD214 it was honored.

We just booked a 4 day out of Galveston on my husband's military discount ... 2 of us are cruising for $350 total in OV cabin ... comparision, we are doing the 5 day on the same ship in February and with our pp discount, we are paying that per person ... but on February we were upgraded to Empress interior. Oh, and on the $350 cruise, they gave me the same rate for my daughter's cabin.
Is the Veteran's Discount only available to those who are serving or have servied in the US Armed Forces? What veterans of NATO allies? I defended the other side of the 49th parallel for 6 1/2 years as a reservist myself.

On Carnival cruise, I believe so. I think that if you check with the cruise consultant they will et you know what documents they need from you in order to get the discount.

I dont know who told you that National Guard is not considered military but they are wrong. My husband retired from the Natl Guard and he has benefits that retired military has. He spent only 4 years active duty but still went to Iraq with the Natl Guard. You need to find someone that knows what they are doing.

Rose- They (Carnival) certainly do. And to all those sailing in the same cabin with her. My mom and my daughter (staying in her cabin) received a military discount for my deceased father. You will need a copy of the discharge papers and a copy of the death certificate. You fax them in after booking and then you will get discount.

Carnival just told me that the Vet must not only travel, but must be in the cabin that is discounted. It is not a standard % discount. It is a special rate code and varies per sailing. And you must ask for it.
The discount varies with the lenght of the cruise and price of the cruise. I am very happy that Carnival does this. It has saved me quite a bit on the last few cruises we have taken. In my opinion Carnival has really improved a lot over the last few years.I think that RCCL is now more the party line and attracting more of the younger crowd than Carnival. We have been very satisfied, and are planning another one with Carnival.
