Welcome to cruise-chat.

My agent gets the price drop for me. I am not interested in upgrades because they are usually meaningless changes to a similar cabin but with a different category identifier.

Welcome to Cruise-Chat!

I have gotten 3 OBC's so far for my cruise. I could have been "up-decked" in conjunction as well, but I like the cabin I have.

Dwayne,

Finally, the term I was searching for! "Up-decked"! That is a perfect description for most "upgrades".

Working with Hotwire and I have asked and nothing has been given. My friend booked with Carnival and she has gotten two price reductions, same cruise.

Hi I love Lucy, welcome to Cruise-Chat. I doubt you will get anything from Hotwire. All the more reason to have a good travel agent that is a cruise specialist. A good travel agent works for you, not the owners of the internet site. I'm sure you received a decent price, but a good travel agent is worth their weight in gold. Best wishes on your upcoming cruise, and once again, welcome aboard!

Welcome to Cruise chat. My wife used an internet service for our first cruise. that was the Last time we used one, they just do not care to service you, (IMHO). All they do is sell. Anything that comes up they will tell you to handle it on board.
We use a TA now, the cost is really cheaper because they work for us. we have recieved several discounts and OBC because she went after them for us.
Have a great cruise.

Thank you Penny!

A most excellent post. Some just don't grasp the difference between an Agent and an Order Taker. An Agent represents you and your interests. They have a responsibility to look after you under "Agency Law". The Order Takers don't have that obligation or concern.

An Agent is in it for the long haul, and a long term relationship representing their clients. It is truly apples and oranges in comparison.
