The best ship to cruise on is anyone you can get on...
But kidding aside... this is a personsal taste question. Everyone has thrie likes and dislikes. If you didn't like the one you were on, list the dislikes and read about them on the cruise line websites and find one that meets you needs.
CCL Fantasy 1990 CCL Celebration 1995 CCL Victory 2005 CCL Conquest 2005 CCL Spirit June 2006 NCL Dream October 2006 RCCL Mariner OTS June 2007 CCL Freedom June 2008 CCL Holiday July 2008
I agree with what Karen and Jim stated, and to tag along to their thoughts, I have become a huge fan of the "Spirit class" ships. Those would be:
Carnival Spirit Carnival Legend Carnival Pride Carnival Miracle
The layouts are convenient, they are not "too big" 88,000 tons, nicely appointed. But to their points, it depends on what preferences and itineraries you are looking for.

Take care, Billy
I am a HUGE fan of the Spirit class ships. We have been on the Spirit, the Pride and sail in a couple of weeks on the Miracle!!
Also "when" you go can make a huge difference on any ship.
If you don't want a lot of kids around, then cruise when school is in session.
If you want MORE of a party atmosphere, then do a 3/4 day cruise.
You are off to the right start by "working the boards" to find the proper "fit" for you!!

I have sailed on the Glory once, last October and am set to sail on it again for Eastern Caribbean on September 29th. So far, it is my favorite ship. I have also cruised on the Victory in 2003 and the Celebration in 2004. The Glory is a Conquest Class Ship so it is a sister ship to: Conquest Valor Freedom and I think Liberty
My vote goes to the Conquest! We loved it!!! We are a family of four...with two young kids 5&8...We all had a blast and look forward to doing it again next July!
Can't vote for a certain ship, as the crew and sailings are all different and change.
My favorite is the Spirit Class, I loved Carnival Pride based on the ship itself. Have been on the bigger Glory since and still prefer Pride.
I still like the Fantasy Class ships too. They are so easy to navigate. There are so many of them, once you've been on one you sorta feel at home on the others.
Like anything in life, you always remember the 1st time.
That would be the Fascination!!

We have only been on the Pride, but boy was it fun. It was clean, decorated fancifully and everyone on board was friendly! My kids (18, 20 and 21) just had a ball!
I have only been on one also like Fivepoints so I would have to say the Imagiantion, It was a very clean nicely deocrated ship. It was not too overboard
