Since I live so close to New Orleans it would probably be great just to get on the ship and get off. Do not have to deal with air travel. But I have a concern about seasickness on a smaller ship. Did not feel a thing on the Conquest. Who has been on there? Can you feel it more?

Haven't noticed a big difference in ship movement between the Fantasy Class ships and The Conquest Class ships during simular sea conditions. I think the Fantasy should be able to take a sudden curve better though.

We were "high-tailing" it out of Nassau on the Glory to avoid another storm, we had already been re-routed due to Wilma. A fog came over in the afternoon and the ship took a sudden turn. The water came out of the pool, and washed the deck chairs to the railings and into the people eating at tables beside the pool. I was sitting at the lido bar and the beer display went sliding off. The tilt was pretty drastic and people were running to the other side of the ship! She stayed tilted for a good 10 minutes. Those Conquest ships must be top heavy or something.

I asked the crew if this happens often. They said no and were just as surprised as the guests. I have since sailed with a couple of the same crew on 2 different ships. When they say I look familiar, and ask what ships I have been on and when..The response both times has been..Oh yeah, the week the ship tilted!

Sorry for the long story. I was past due for one. Razz

We have sailed on both (the Fantasy many times) and never had a problem with the motion.

My only comment is that the Fantasy will be going into drydock in September and the last time we sailed her in August....she was looking tired.

Nothing that would ruin a cruise...but just something that you may need a "heads up" about...especially if you cruised on the Conquest when she was in her prime.

The Fantasy also gets the new Evolutions of Fun in September and that is going to be nice.

Yes, she should be looking great when she comes out of drydock. They are going to do alot of work in the cabins as well. Smile

samantha, you will need to use the BB code option to get your ticker to work.

Just returned from the Fantasy (3/3-3/8) and had a great cruise. The seas were extremely rough but the Fantasy class ships handle rough seas exceptionally well. Dave, the seas were much rougher than we encountered on Holiday and it was barely noticeable. the Fantasy Class ship is most definitely the ideal ship size in my opinion.

Although I lost my ^%& in the casino, the Fantasy has the best Casino Host(ess) I have ever encountered, Adrianna Maleva, who made losing fun. I also encountered something else very unusual which was a personable maitre'd! "Stan the Man" of the Jubilee dining room should be incharge of training ALL the Maitre'ds fleet wide. The new cruise director, Butch, was very personable, upbeat and friendly also and managed to have something going on all the time somewhere on the ship, since the weather was crummy.

The bands and musicians throughout the various venues were very good and entertaining, although the evening shows were lackluster compared to others I have seen on Carnival.

It is still sad that New Orleans shows very few signs of progress since Katrina. Many of the residents there were saying that the money did get there, but local officials had a party with it.

Rumor has it that New Orleans will be getting a second ship in the near future for 7-day cruises and the Fantasy will stay for the rotating 4&5 days. The same source says that the Holiday will stay in Mobile until the Port Authority expands the channel where a Fantasy class ship can turn around safely. So, New Orleans will see a second ship before anything happens in Mobile, at least from what I heard.

The ship was clean and the staff and food excellent, but as LHP stated, the ship is getting tired. A lot of this is probably because they are skipping some things until the drydocking. After the new additions in September, this will truly be one awesome ship and cruise to take. There is a lot to be said for the smooth 8 hour ride up/down the Misissippi to and from the gulf. That alone makes the trip being able to get a good night's rest before going home!

I'll try and post a complete review soon but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!

Welcome back! I remember thinking that the Holiday was a tight fit in the turning basin at Mobile, and wondered if a Fantasy-class ship would fit.

I would imagine there has got to be something going on behind the scenes between Carnival and Port of Mobile because the Holiday isn't going to last forever, although she does keep hanging in there with bells ringing! The Fantasy in Mobile for 4/5 day cruises and a Destiny or Conquest class ship in New Orleans for 7-day cruises would be the perfect fit right now - but I'd imagine there are a bunch of incentives right now to concentrate both in New Orleans, which may be why Mobile hasn't started digging the turning basin. I bet if they went ahead, a larger ship would suddenly show up. "Dig it and they will come!"

Hi Samantha! We had Anthony from India who is very close with Stan. Anthony gets to "bring in" all of the new ships and then comes back to the Fantasy after everything is set up. It was very interesting talking to him, especially with him being on every ship for its first cruise!

Hi TN, and Welcome back! Thanks for the great review. I have an odd question...Did the cabin bathrooms still have the old small tiles? I had read they were going to replace the tiles. Just curious, I haven't sailed on her since 2002 after they re-did the promenade.

Those putred pink tiles were gone, or at least covered up with a white fiberglass insert. Also halogen lighting for the bathroom mirror.

Emily go ahead and book! We are going to book the Fantasy again for Halloween week 2008. Dave...want to change your Fantasy booking to that week? Halloween is a blast on the ship, at least it was on Holiday and I imagine Fantasy would be even better.

the fantasy is not a small ship. same as sensation, i been one both out of nola. the hoiday is a smaller ship.

carnival said if you been on the sen or fan. you will not enjoy it.

my 1st cruise was on the sen. it was great!!!
booked another one as soon as i could, it got canceled due to hurricane katrina, the sensation get decommsioned for repairs if you recall,
so we got a booking on the fantasy,so lay out of boat,, everything was ok , but the food wasnt up to par with the first crusie,
on that cruise , i thinked the ''cooks'' thought people liked there food with blood running out of it. that was the only real down fall, and the late night dinning, or waittress was rude, i had to eat a filet mingon with water, cause they didnt have cokes there. where with the sensation or watier was nice as could be..any way theres alway 24 hour pizza ,and ice cream.

what ever you decide, you will have a great time.

i did but lots of neg , things on that comment card.

maid room service both times where great , my advise is...if you pay all the fees and tips up ront ,,always give your maid a 20 dollar bill, that way you will get excellent room service,, thay come at least 3 times a day to straighten sheets , new towels ect. < anamials LOL.
the second cruise i went on we didnt get off the bost , the dock was out , due to hurricane emily. and we roda the wake in after hurricane cindy passed , i was getting i little sea sick then cause boat was rocking, plus i had to many drinks or the boat , im sure didnt help.

well have fun !
