Carnival wouldn't stop there on Christmas if there was nothing to do. Some private tour operators and shops will close, but for the most part things will be open, tours will run, etc. For most of the locals the quest for tourist cash outweighs taking the holiday off.

kagmarshall- Like Dave said.. most likely, if the cruise ship ports, the locals will be their trying for your tourist cash.

But if you want to know for sure, their is a "contact us" link on the website here and you could write to them and ask if the falls will be open. That way you will know in advance and can plan accordingly.

Some outside tour operators are in fact closed Christmas day for the falls tour. You can also check with Carnival's Shore Excursion Dept. The email address is: shoreexcursions@carnival.com

No, they shut the falls off on holidays. Big Grin

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

To be safe on holidays, I'd book all my tours through the cruise line since they will be running.

kagmarshall...

we haven't put the deposit down yet but we are going on that same cruise. It seems like a great itinerary. Is this your first? Email me if you want any info. It's our 11th. I'm SURE all excursions and businesses will be open and available to take US dollars!!

hi steve

I used to work for carnival many years ago

So now that the children are growing up 13, 15, 16 we decided to start taking cruising vacations. We have only been on the glory easter 2006 loved being a passenger for a change. Any way looking forward to our chistmas cruise. Good look with your booking.

It's going to be my wife and I and our 2 boys...16 and 18. This will be their 3rd cruise and they LOVE em. Of course, they LOVE escargot and lobster tail, so good food is something they look forward to. I always have to laugh at people who criticize the burgers or fries on a cruise. Who goes on a cruise to eat the burgers and fries??

How many with you Karen? I'm from North Carolina by the way...where are you?

hi steve

there will be five of us, my husband Bill and our three kids, two girls 16, 15 and our son who's will have just turned 13. We are from (Birkenhead) liverpool uk. What kind of stateroom did you book, we booked an ocean view.
Soon as we can cruise on our own we would love a balcony (selfish ey). Do you do the formal nights? let us know.

cheers for now

I don't want to burst your bubble, but Christmas time can bring some bad weather. We went this last December 30 to Jan 5th. We had to cut the Cayman port short (1/2 day from a full) and then we had to skip Ocho Rios all together because of bad weather. Only the first 2 days were warm. The rest of the week was in the 60's for a high. We still had a lot of fun, but I was dissappointed with missing the falls as I had a whole private tour set up with Phil Lafayette for the whole day. So, be prepared for the worst, and hopefully the best will happen.

Thanks for the reply Tom. To be honest any kind of weather has got to be better than wet and miserable old England at Christmas time.

Do Carnival make it seem Christmasy?

cheers

Karen, The ship will be all decorated for Christmas and they will have some special activities because of Christmas. So it should be very festive! Enjoy !

I never let past weather influence my decision. I went on a mid December cruise on Costa 2 years ago and it was lovely!

Karen, we almost always do inside staterooms. They are exactly the same as an oceanview except for the window. The window isn't worth the extra money to me!

We definitely do formal nights. We do Tuxedo and gown one night and suits the other night. And of course we NEVER miss a photo op!

We're riviera deck front. We've done that before and loved it. Really looking forward to Christmas on a ship. Never done it before.

Cheers...Steve
