Are there any sitters on board..we need someone to keep a eye over our 8 year old for a couple hours everyday? We will soon be on the sensation. He hate Camp Carnival, thinks he is being punished in a day care..Thanks for your help.

You are nice. I would tell my child to suck it up and make the best of it. Most 8 year olds don't get to go on cruises. Either that or I would tell him he could stay with whichever relative he dislikes the most.

And yes my daughter gets very frustrated with me sometimes. lol

They do have baby sitters available. As far as I know the hours are limited from 10pm to 3am though.

Carnival does not have private sitters that come to the cabin.

There is babysitting at Camp Carnival from 10pm to 3AM for $6.00 an hour.

Has he ever tried Camp Carnival?

Both of our boys loved it.

While I am also of the "last time I checked, this was not a democracy...you will do what I tell you do to" mindset....

if it helps...below is a copy of an example of the Carnival Capers for his age group.

He can pick and choose which activities he would like to participate in. For example: he may love the Pirate Hunt...but not be so crazy about the "nap time".

Let him know that he is not locked into Camp Carnival for the entire day....

Yes, make sure he understands that he doesn't have to go all day. In fact my girls came and went (you can set it up so you have to sign him in or out OR he can come and go as he chooses (although at 8 years old I don't know if that is an option...)

Bring a set of walkie talkies with you and he can "call" you when he wants to leave the camp.
That worked out well for us.

What a line, i must say i do agree, at 8 which my daughter was when we went , she was fine and took part in all the things we did , as it was a family vacation , she went to Kids camp for a hour or two when there was activities she wanted to do, so guess you all have to make the best of it

I love the idea of walkie talkies..that is great. But I kind of think we as parents need to "suck it up"not so much the kids... as someone said. There really aren't many places he can't go...(casino.).we aren't drinkers so we don't care about the bar.The kids just think family vacations mean just that..our family together. Thanks for opening up my eyes to what is really important on a family vacation.HE IS!

LHP, thanks for clarifying my post about the availability being from 10pm to 3am. I should have mentioned it was not available for in cabin services. Smile

You are looking for a babysitter during your excursions?? or you are just looking for a babysitter for the day??

SueR- You certainly can take him with to many of the on board activities. The baby sitting is an option but the is again in Camp Carnival not private sitting in the cabin. But for what its worth, the after hours sitting that they do offer is with other childern his own age and he may enjoy that.

But, the reason for my post is to make you aware of another alternative. On the longer cruises, Camp Carnival has a "all nighter" kids party. basically a big sleep over thing. They do charge for it and you could pick him up in th emiddle of the night if he doesn't want to do all night. But they has a blast (pizza making party, movie watching, games etc.) and you can have an evening to yourselves without having to worry about him. If it sounds like something you are interested in, go to the camp carnival "sign up" meeting on the first afternoon on board and sign him up for the party, yo ucan always cancel if you guys change you mind, but you might not be able to get in if the party fills up.
