Kellymo - I usually wait until the second day to purchase. Usually, everyone is hurrying around the first day with unpacking and setting up reservations for the spa and such. Then there is the muster drill and dinner. I don't have time to do much of anything so the next morning I purchase the soda card. It is pro-rated so I save a bit. Hope this helps
I saw that comment about buying on the second day. I have no idea why someone would think that is a good idea. We like to get these things out of the way on embarkation day. I mean, it isn't a big deal. We board the ship and go to the buffet and go to a bar or the soda card station and get our son the card. Only takes a couple minutes. For the record, I do not think the adult soda card is a good value but do think it is a good thing for kids. Why? Because the adult card costs more and is only a value if you drink more than 3 cans of soda per day.
I was just about to get my PS...in, but Dave is soooooooooo fast I just wanted to mention that I am probably the ONLY person on this board who purchases a soda card, but I am a Diet Pepsi addict. Try not to shudder too much Dave
Nothing wrong with diet pepsi! I love the stuff. Dave is correct. But note that he says if you are not going to drink more than 3 sodas a day. If you do drink 3 or more a day, then it is a good deal. BUT, most people don't drink that many while on a cruise. I may drink that many at home on a weekend, but on a cruise, you tend to drink more adult bevvies (wine at dinner or a drink in the casino or show). I found that even though I was a big soda drinker, I maybe broke even with the card. For the kiddo's it is a good deal, but for adults, where there are other drink choices, not so much.

Well, I tend to have to beg off on the adult beverages on the cruise because of motion sickness. I am already prone for it. Add a few drinks and it just makes it worse Diet Pepsi for me...that way I can continue to CRUISE!!!!

I have a question; I can not drink adult bevvies (maybe 1 a day if I am lucky) so I was considering a Adult soda card, but I am an Ice Tea addict. Does Ice Tea count with the card?

Yes - the soda card counts everywhere BUT room service.
When you are at the show and they come around for drink orders...get a soda
When you are walking down the promanade deck...get a soda
When you are hanging at the pool...get a soda
When you are in the entrance waiting on folks so you can get off the ship...get a soda.
When you are at an art auction...get a soda
And if you have an excellent bar waiter (if that is the right term...help me out here guys - the one that gets the mixed drinks while you are at dinner..)- get a soda.
My guy made sure that I had my soda EVERY time I sat down and I NEVER had to ask to be refreshed because he kept them coming.
Note to Dave: I would love to be able to partake of some adult beverages...such as my favorite "fake" martini
Last time I did...I paid dearly...and that night almost (I said almost) kept me off cruising for good!
Yes, you can have all the ice tea you can handle without charge or a card. So, you can save $$$ if you can drink tea instead of soda (At least on CCL you can sub the word "Lemonade" in for tea in the above comment)

I bought the Soda card last year on the ship and it was worth it for me. I'm not a drinker, so coke it was. I did have a Bahama Mama, and I must say, it was pretty tasty
Well I drink more than 3 sodas during the day is the CARIBBEAN!!! IS HOT YOU KNOW!!! Believe me is better to get your soda card the first day why later for just a few dollars? Remember the first day is the day you make any arrangement then you enjoy your cruise so for me, I try to do everything the first day then is just fun ship… and yes the soda card is worth the money. But I don’t know I don’t like diet pepsi I like real pepsi better
Okay Okaaaaaaay. Maybe I will have to purchase a soda card the day I get to the ship. I just did not see how my 2nd day reasoning was so flawed. Thank you cruise-chatters for making me see the errors of my way.
I read on another board that it is a good idea to wait to purchase your soda card until the boat has left the port and is far enough out to sea that the Duty Free Shops have opened. At this point you will not be charged tax on the purchase of the soda card.
I have no personal knowledge if this is indeed correct...but this is may be the reason you remember reading.
Diana - the adult soda card is $38.50 and the child one is $28.50
