I just want to make a suggestion, as we ran into a problem, since Carnival decided to cut down on their tags, and send us only a "fax" copy of what we needed. How they "expected" the "thin" paper to stay on the luggage is beyond me.
It was suggested that we have the fax copy laminated, but they could not do it, so this is what I came up with, and it looks like it is going to work for us.
If you have any plastic cover sheets (8 1/2 x 11), (you can get them at Office Max/K-mart, etc.)cut them in half, after you have folded the fax copy with the Carnival information 3 times, slip it into half of the sheet. Take some tape like string tape (has nylon treads running through it), tape the long side, slip it under the handle, and then tape the end. It will stay on your luggage without tearing off.
I hope this helps, if any of you got "faxed" sheets with your information on it. How Carnival ever expected the sheet to stay with the luggage is beyong me.

I really got a laugh when I saw the tags on our recent cruise. "They've GOT to be kidding!" Anyway, all of the porters now carry a stapler in their pocket and they will gladly attach it for you at the pier. For a precaution, I also had a strip of tape on the side of the suitcase marking last name and cabin number just incase the stapled tag came off. It didn't and everything arrived just fine.
I also put a piece of paper with all my cruise information and my cell number inside the suitcase. It's in a large font and on top of everything so it can't be missed.

That's a great idea Larry! The tag came off of my snorkel bag once and they didn't deliver it. I had to identify the contents of the bag. I put those heavy-duty 3M luggage tags on now as well with a business card in them.

Well our tags did make it by me putting them in the 8/10 holder, and then cutting it in half, taping the side and ends.
Yes, I had heard that also, about them having a stapler, but I didn't want to wait until we got there, I wanted to take care of it, before I left.
I discovered on this trip they are really cutting down in a lot of areas. Right now, I have been sick with a bad cold, but plan to write a review, once I feel better.

Usually put a copy in the outside pocket as well.
Along those same lines, but a little off topic, is to put a copy of your passport photo page in your luggage. This is not to protect your luggage but rather the passpport. If you loose your passport you will be amazed how much easier it is to replace at an American Embassy when you have a photo copy. Happened to my wife in Paris. She had her copy, and Voila, she had a new passport of Paris issue. It wasn't quite that easy but it sure helped.
Oh yea and we laminated our paper luggage tags. I think it was overkill, simple packing tape, as was suggested, is enough, the 8x10 clear cover is a good idea too. And the first time we sailed the Triumph we had no tags and wrote on our luggage with white out, it was all we could find in the hotel room, "Triumph" and the cabin number and that worked.

The Porters at the pier have an ample supply of permanent, real bag tags. I'd discard the paper ones and have them put the real thing on if I were you. Just bring a Sharpie marker with you.
Just a reminder you can get better tags from the porters, but you should still put something on your bag before you leave home. If the airlines lose your luggage it will make it easier for your luggage to catch up with you, and easier for the cruise line to help locate the luggage if you have a cruise tag on the bag. Also; Just take some self-adhesive address labels with you to mark the tags you get from the porters.
Cruise Fanatic, That is great advice! I do the same thing in case a tag gets torn off during the transportation or delivery process. I use the 3M luggage tags, they are heavy duty, and not that expensive.
Larry's recommendation of putting something inside the luggage is brilliant. That would have helped them find me when my snorkel gear got lost.

I just read all you guys idea and they all sound great because I sure was wondering what to do with those paper tags so these were some great ideas. And Yes i am doing the doc dance ...Yea Yea Yea.
cruisedad, that is a good idea of putting a copy of your passport picture, etc. in your luggage.
You also mentioned about being on the Triumph. Did you write a review? I was wondering what you thought about the ship? We just came back from being on the Carnival Liberty, which is a much larger ship. It was nice, but to say the least, I would go back on the Triumph anytime.
I am planning on writing a reviw on the Liberty, but I have been sick ever since (not from being on the ship) I left, and came back, but plan to do it soon.
That is fine, but as I said, I used the clear 8 x 10 plastic covers with string tape, and to say the least, when I got home, they were STILL on.
Of course if you don't have access to the 8 x 10 plastic covers or string tape, then bringing the tags for the Porters to put on is what a person should do. I just like to have everything done "before" I get on the ship, and don't want to "hastle" with something before I get on.
So true, so true, that us why I said I have my information on the luggage "before" I leave.
Actually a few years ago, if I hadn't, it would probably have taken longer to get back to me, as our luggage went on another cruse line for 4 1/2 days.
brneyes, dear i tend to ask questions as soon as I book I think. I am not leaving until May 4th which is in a few weeks I am so excited!! I too am going on the Carnival Liberty so I am anxious to see your review before I leave if it is posted by then. I hope you feel better soon nothing like coming off a cruise and getting sick, maybe climate change but at nay rate get well soon.
