Hi, Does anyone know if you can get "real " luggage tags at the port upon arrival? I printed my own docs and these paper tags aren't going to last. I would have thought Carnival would at least send out tags even if you chose to print your own docs! Thanks for any answers.
Yes, they have the real luggage tags at the pier terminal. When you pull up if driving tell them you need tags. Tell them the color and section and they will bring them immediately. It is a good idea to have a pen handy to fill the tags out. We use a sharpie and just write the cabin number and put an address label on them. It is also a good idea to have an extra tag with your name etc. on your luggage.

I use the packing tape trick too...works great...depends on which cruise lines you are going on...some stil have the plastic tags...but I'm sure that will change with the cost of everything going up... Happy sailing...
Some of you have found great ways of making a very bad decision on the cruiselines part work for you. Printed papaer tags are a very bad idea. Dwayne is right, don't bother with the temp tags unless you're very creative like a couple of posters here and have a way to make them permanent. There are a lot of porters at the pier and all will have the real thing when you arrive.
I'm with Neil and Dwayne on this - don't bother trying to make those silly paper tags work. Just ask for the real thing from a porter at the dock. Works fine. And yes, we do carry a sharpie with us to fill them out.
I really wonder who at the cruise lines think having passengers print out tags at home is a good idea. Whoever thought it up would not be getting a good performance evaluation or raise from me.
And its the luggage tags thing that makes me still ask for mailed documents. If they would send me some real tags I would elect for the electronic documents. At some point they are gonig to deny the mailed documents, that is not going to be good. Although I like the packing tape idea. Simple and strong.

I would have opted for mailed docs also. I was told since I clicked on the link to look at the docs ( I justed wanted to verify info was correct)that now I would HAVE to print them. I asked to have them mailed and they said they could not since I clicked on the documents link. So beware..if you click on it, even just to look, they will force you to print docs and tags. I sure learned my lesson. Not only do we have to pay a fuel surcharge, now we are stuck printing our own docs and tags!! I guess you suck it up if you like to cruise, which I do.
If you are going to grab tags at the pier...take some self adhesive address labels to cut down on the writing. And use a RED Sharpie to write down the cabin number.
That is what we always USED to do when we got the REAL tags....

I hope I am not repeating myself (I posted this :somewhere: and can't remember where)
BUT...
I can't believe that Carnival is not more on top of the ball on this one. The minute they new they were going to Edoc and paper tags...they should have had plastic luggage tags (the exact size to slip the paper tags into) that were clear on both sides in those silly Carnival colors in the gift shops. They would make a killing selling those things!!
I suggested to John Heald (in his suggestions to take to Miami) that they should have PLATINUM ones made for Platinum members as their LOGO item. (I have enough beach bags!!)

We got our docs in the mail last week, and they didn't send luggage tags with the docs either. They have printed some on the docs, but they work about as well as the ones you print yourself.
That is strange they didn't send you tags with the docs. I thought they always mailed them unless you printed your own documents. Maybe I will voice my opinion on the ship if I receive a survey !!
We also just received our mailed documents from Carnival on Friday for 12/9 cruise ... you guessed it ... they are the paper tags no colored ones ... with traveling by plane this time, they will stay in the tickets and I'll see the Porters for the colored ones ...
And how much longer before they only have the paper tags at the pier too? What a stupid way to save a nickel.
They need a new system for luggage delivery and not just a cheapening of the existing method. Perhaps barcode tags which are stick-on, like those used by the airlines? They read the barcode with a reader aboard the ship and the screen tells the crewperson which cabin to take it to.
That's a good idea Dave. Or, just a big stick on tag with the cabin # on it. No scanning needed.
I really feel sorry for the baggage handlers (those on the ship) I can't imagine how tedious that job is. They must pick up and move each bag many times before it gets to your cabin.
Which brings up a point on - It wouldn't hurt to double up on the tags on your luggage. Maybe make your own stick on labels with your name/sailing date and cabin number on it. That way if the primary tag gets ripped off there is another way of getting your bag to the correct cabin. Can you imagine how many people end up at the pursurer's desk looking for a "black softsided suit case about this big?" Well, there will be many more if the paper tag thing continues.
