Dunns River Falls or Sunset Beach?

The kids are 8 and 5. We would hate to go to Jamaica and miss Dunn's River Falls, but it is a long trip and I have heard bad things about the drive. I did hear that they built a new highway, but don't know the details on that. Sunset Beach sounds like lots of fun too.

While Dunn's River Falls is nice, it isn't worth the long trek from Montego Bay which eats up your whole port day.

Montego Bay is an armpit. Do not drag your children half way around the island of Jamaica to see this water fall. We are one of the few posters on this board who actually like Jamaica and I say this. It is just a waterfall. I know it is popular, but driving (riding) in Jamaica rivals any amusement park ride out there. We had a 1:00 tour that lasted 3 hours (we were river tubing on a ship sponsored tour--you will hear about this when I review the whole thing for everyone) and got back to the ship at 5:28 for a 5:30 departure and my neck may never be the same. An 8 year old could operate a motor vehicle more safely. Saw a pedestrian jump for his life. We were on the amazing Liberty of the Seas, and I wish I had stayed there.

I agree with the others, MoBay is a very nice place to hang out on the ship at port and enjoy having the pools, hot tubs and other venues that are often crowded while sailing to yourself and the kiddos for some family time. How much time to you get on vacation to spend solely focused on the kids? This would be your oppt'y. Eat breakfast together at your leisure, enjoy the ship and whtever activities they enjoy onboard. If the ship you chose has a water slide or something they'd enjoy, be their audience and participate. Then go have lunch together and play some ping pong or something with them. I think you'll find it'll be one of the most rewarding days of your cruise and it'll cost you nothing that day for your day of enjoyment! Just my thoughts on it anyway.

Cheers, Neil

When we were at Mo Bay on the Freedom Of The Seas in 2006 we went to Margaritaville for lunch and then returned to the ship and had a nice time with the ship mostly empty - which left the pools wonderfully uncluttered.

I just got back from our cruise. One stop was Montego Bay and we had a fantastic time at the Sunset Beach Resort. It was $40 pp inclusive for the day. It is a secure place and loads of fun. Plenty of food and drink. There is also lots for the kids to do as all amenities are included. Not sure of the price for kids are though. Hope this helps and I am not too late for this.
