Can someone tell me what CoCo Cay is and if it is worth the visit? Do they play island music? Am I gonna feel like I'm in the Bahamas or will it feel more like a typical US beach?

CocoCay is a private island in the Bahamas owned (or leased from the Bahamas) by Royal Caribbean. It is a small little party island located in the Berry chain of Bahamian islands.

It is a nice little island, used by the Royal Caribbean as an island stop for it's cruise ships. Since it is too small for a dock they use smaller "Tender" boats to ferry the passengers to and from the cruise ship to the island.

As for whether it is a "typical US beach" or not. Or whether you will feel like you are in the Bahamas; I would say the latter of the two. It has a small beach around the island which is very nice. It has a few small souvenir shops set-up. A pinic area, bar, and waiters roaming around with trays full of drinks. They might have a Calypso band playing in the center of the island (near the pinic area). Yes, they will have complementary food served buffet stlye on the island. Like I said, it is a private island; so the only people on the island are the passengers from the ship, the crew members from the ship, and a few Bahamian's who run the shops and boats.

Hi girlmccoy and welcome to Cruise Chat.

Coco Cay is a fun beach day. It will feel like the Bahamas, as Frase's great pictures show. You can rent watercraft like kayaks or small sailboats and the like. The water is blue, the weather is warm.

The good thing about Coco Cay is that you can spend as little or as much time as you want there and go back to the ship whenever you want. There is continuous tender service all day. Since the ship is anchored, your only choices for that day are to go to Coco Cay or stay on the ship. Or you can do both at various times during the day!

Also note that when at Coco Cay the ships typically don't have the Windjammer buffet open. This is because the island barbecue is being catered by the buffet staff. The main dining room will be open for lunch.

oco Cay is probably my favorite stop. It is nice, clean, inexpensive, safe, beautiful and relaxing. It is comforting to know the place is staffed by RCCL staff and your nbot going to be approached by an unsavory type like has happened at Nassau.
You can do absolutely nothing but lay in the sand or on a hammock. There is a cool nature walk around the island or you can play volleyball or pay for snorkeling(or bring your own) Not as nice as Belize snorkeling but for the price you can't beat it. They also had kayaking for a fee- my husband did that and loved it. There are other activites too depending on how much you want to do. It ws a great day.

CoCo Cay is great.. we have been twice and plan to go again..I would be happy if RCI skipped Nassau and spent 2 days on the island. Grab hammock and play all day. Rent a beach mat for $5 and float out, you will see some amazing sea life and the water is great. We have taken the jet ski's out to starfish cay.. just beautiful, they are a little pricey, but well worth it if there are 2 of you, you pay for the jet ski, not per person. The BBQ is good, the drinks are plenty and there is so much to do...Best Beach day around. Have a great time!

If you like snorkeling, they have a wonderful area to snorkel, with a sunken ship that you can look around. Beautiful fish and a fun time. And all the burgers and grilled stuff you want. I think ANYTHING beats the heck out of Nassau. Coco Cay is a fun day.
