I would have to agree with wise2u. When you go on vacation and pay for something you should get it. If he had know he wouldnt have taken that tour. I will be there 1st of January. Thanks wise2u because I was going to take this tour. If it was'nt for wise2u I would be very upset to. THEY SHOULD LET YOU KNOW.
It's a little hard to see, but you maybe able to zoom in on your browser. The yellowy-green part at the bottom marks the part currently being remodelled - this was the cultural and botanical area before.
The rest is open as before, including the privately-operated dolphin area (which I hasten to add I don't agree with but won't get into that here).
mollroddot - I don't think wise2u bought a tour, but went direct. I know they have the same map (above) on display in the entrance, which shows what is open, but perhaps the park should have a sign up saying areas are being remodelled too. Then again, only those that have been before will notice the difference...

I didnt take the tour so it only cost my wife and I $48 with cab to sit on the beach there. If we had done a tour it would have been $80. I was looking foward to the the beach, lagoon, the mayan replica statues, the underwater statues, and mostly, the reef. Other than the beach and 1 underwater statue everything else was gone or closed..the big tarpon near the caves i heard about were gone, I dont know what the reef used to look like there but there was nothing left to speak of..i could have seen more reef from the area in front of a hotel by the international pier (looking from ship to the left of el cid) you can walk to it and while the hotel might not let you use thier chairs they cant stop you from walking thier beach or using thier swimming area..beaches in Mexico are public...
Does anyone know the current status of XEL-HA or XCARET....not what they say at their website or tourist news sites (everything is fine, you come and see) bah...i mean actual recent visit to the parks!? as far as cozumel, only paradise beach or a snorkel boat trip sound worth it...i notice fury had 3 or 4 nice catamarans to take you to real reefs.
We were in Cozumel on the 11th. Sadly, Chank Park is coming back slowly but surely. The ships should warn that there is still a lot of construction going on and what this park has to offer at this time.
We spent as much of the day as we could (our 15 year old is a special needs child and can't do much for long) at Paradise Beach. Tom has it looking good. I can't imagine how much better it will look this time next year when (hopefully) the pool is in.
There is new road along the waterline between Chank Park and Paradise Beach. The taxi went that way to avoid construction. It was something different.

I see by the map the floating platform is there and the restaurant and dive hut. I usually park myself between the two. Hopefully will all get back as before eventually.

My Wike and I went to Xel-Ha, south of Playacar on 10/24/06. This was my second visit and first since the hurricanes, so I can compare before and after. Xel-Ha is just a nice now as before, I noticed nothing that indicated any damage done. In fact I would say the marine life was more plentiful this last trip. Keeping in mind that Xel-Ha is not a place with coral formations, so there is little to damage, but it is truly one of the most beautiful snorkeling places I have ever experienced.
glad to hear it...i will put it on my list for my stay in Dec......has anyone been to XCARET ?? i know they have shore excursions there...from what i heard it was bigger and had an all inclusive deal...i hope it is still in good shape...anyone know for sure? with all the ports down that stretch of mexico they need some good attractions.
