I found the most beautiful chocolates in Puerto Rico during my Eastern Caribbean cruise. RCL recommended a chocolate shop at one of the other ports. People were standing in line there but I was not impressed and glad I spent my chocolate money in PR. The shop was being redecorated, the owner was very nice, his chocolates were art and tasted divine! He told me he was struggling to get on the cruise directors lists of recommended shopping, so I hope that he is doing well. His address is San Justo Street 202A, PMB 204, Old San Juan, PR. Good luck Mr and Mrs. Caris-Perez! Linda

I agree! It's fantastic. We used to stop by little huts set up by the roadside to buy the dulce de coco, plus the best pineapple in the world. Yum!

It looks to be a few hundred yards up the hill from the dock area. San Justo Street runs perpendicular to the harbor.

Frankly I think Corne Port Royal is overrated. I think the best chocolates I've had in a long time are made right here in the mainland U.S. in Wilmington, NC. South'n France is the name.

Is that like Cuban roast pork, where the whole hog is barbecued? I've had it before. Quite good.

I guess to keep this thread on track I should say that a nice chocolate dessert would be a nice ending to the barbecue. Smile

Yes and there is an explanation for that
Cuba and Puerto Rico are call the sisters Islands during the time we were under Spain jurisdiction we were the last two colonies they had and because of that our culture are similar even on the food level...

I am sorry for changing the subject
Just to get back on it
there are a few desserts you shuold try next time you are on Puerto Rico you can find it almost any Restaurant on The Island or old San Juan:

* "Dulce Tres Leches"

* "Tembleque"

* "Dulce de Guayaba"

* "Besitos de Coco"

Also remember that near in Old San Juan is the place the Pina Colada was invented(true story),
so if you have the oportunity get there after the chocolate...

I do not agree with you dave ! Have you ever tasted real chocolate ? I dont think so ! Corne has REAL cacao in the chocolates . Look at their website !!! Nothing to compare with your local candystore in wilmington .Give your tastebutts what they are asking for REAL CHOCOLATE . I have been several times in Belgium and I can tell you , it is the only country with real good chocolate . Just look around and you'll see that ALL of the big names in chocolate world are BELGIAN

You didn t know ???What are you looking for when you are in the old san juan ?Dont tell me you want the chinese souvenir shops! Such a pitty that everything you find there is "made in china".
I always look for quality and with those chocolates from Corne they really have good stuff . I just heard that it is the first shop of that brand in the Americas and that they intend on opening soon other shops

You wouldn't by any chance have a personal interest in Corne Port Royal? You seem to be quite the cheerleader for them.

Sorry not to have any interest in that company dave but I recognize quality when I see it (even if it is from out of our mainland US)

Who really cares? I live 20 miles from Nestle Chocolate and it's good enough for me. Besides, I thought Belgium was known for it's waffles, and Belgian beer.
