Hi, I'm going on my 1st cruise this Dec. One stop is Nassau. I have absolutely NO idea what to do about excursions. I've heard from some just to wait to get there and not even worry about RC's excursion plans. I've also been told to go to Atlantis.

Is there any way I can go to Atlantis w/o using a RC excursion, and if I can, what should I do while I'm there?

Also, RC offers an all-inclusive package to Breezes Resort on Nassau. The site looks wonderful. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

Take a cab once you get into Nassau to go to Atlantis. It is worth the while to just walk around the premises. We shared the cab with another couple and it didn't cost much. Have been to Nassau a number of times and one time we took the city tour and asked for our money back when we got back to the ship as it was so bad and we didn't see everything as advertised.

Hi squirt, and welcome to Cruise Chat.

We did the Breezes excursion during one of our stops in Nassau. It was fun, and was just as advertised in the shore excursion information.

The place is very nice, right on the ocean with ocean sports available, weather permitting. My husband took out a windsurfer. There were other types of sailboats available, as well as other watercraft.

There were two or three pools, including a pool with a swim-up bar. The day we were there, there were lots of honeymoon couples. All the drinks, sports equipment, and lunch were included. If you like to drink, this is a big bargain. Before lunch, my husband went to one of the bars and asked for some Johnny Walker Black. The bartender took out an 8-oz tumbler and started pouring. When the glass was half way full, he said to my husband, "enough?" Had my husband not said, "Yes" the bartender would have kept pouring! We arrived at about 11am, and I have to tell you, some people were already wasted.

The buffet lunch was very good. The day was a good experience for us, and satisfied our curiousity about all-inclusive resorts, which we had been wanting to try.

Atlantis is just amazing to walk through. There is a public beach next door. You can do the straw market, which I like but a lot of people don't. I also think the Queen's staircase is interesting. But Atlantis is so unique. It's not far from where you dock (across the bridge). Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!

We have done both. If you are into the party beach idea, go to breezes. You can stay past the shuttle time, just take a cab back. As for atlantis, it is something to see. We did an excersion there, and the beach was awsome. If your not a big drinker, go to atlantis.

Both are good choices.

we have been to Nassau twice and each time we have visited Atlantis. The first time we took the water taxi, takes longer and there is a bit of a walk from the dock to the Hotel. The second time we took the taxi (same price per person) it took us right to the front door of the hotel and when your done at Atlantis you just go outside and hitch a ride back (another 4.00 per person) but well worth the money. They drive a little crazy, so just be aware of that. Atlantis is free to just walk around, see the underground aquarium, etc..
I'd say go to Atlantis first and then come back to the straw market and do your shopping and such. I am not all that crazy over the straw market but it's something you really should judge for yourself. At least you can say you've been there, seen that.

A cute story to tell...our cab driver on the way over to Atlantis didn't mention anything about the bridge toll of 2.00 per vehicle until we were well on the way to Atlantis. He announced that there was a 2.00 toll and that it would not be coming out of his pocket, so we needed to discuss amongst ourselves how we were going to pay for it....a young man spoke up and said that he would pay the 2.00 toll. We all clapped and thanked him. Then with my own eyes, I seen the driver hand the lady at the toll booth the two dollars, she threw 50 cents into the toll basket and the 2 dollar bills went right into her pocket. LOL

enjoy your trip

IS it true that Carnival now has an excursion where you can do the water slides, lazy river etc. I was just scrolling through all the Nassau excursions on their website and that is what it said. For years as I've read these boards I thought the only way you could do it was to get a room at the hotel across the street. ANYONE actually done it??
Thanks

We also have been to Nassau twice. The first time last November we walked off the ship and we were approached by a woman who asked us if we would like to take a tour. She told us where we would visit and that we would be taken to Atlantis for 45 min. The cost would be $25.00 pp and we would not pay till we returned. If we did not feel we got our monies worth we would not pay. We took the tour and we did get our monies worth. I do recommend it if you would like to have a tour of the island.

This Nov we returned and this time we took a taxi to Atlantis as we were with 18 other family members. The cost was $4.00pp each way. At the toll the driver handed the attendant 1 or 2 dollars and then dropped some change in the machine. Not sure what that was all about but we were not asked to pay this. We walked all through Atlantis and viewed the aquarium. Then we came to something I cannot remember what it was but it looked a little scary and underground. Turned out to be more sealife. It was amazing! Later people told us they had to pay to see that. When we went through it was about 8:30am and no one was there to collect money so I guess it depends on what time you arrive. We then made the long walk through the hotel and across to the other hotel to the beach (next door) As we approached the beach we were approached by 3 men who asked if we would like to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella. I believe they quoted $20-30 I told them we would only be there about an hr as we were only in Nassau till 2pm and had to be on the ship at 1:30. There were only 4 of us at this time. We agreed on $10.00. Then we found a stand selling drinks in a coconut. $10.00 for all you could drink. We could choose from Rum Punch, Yellow Bird or Pina Colada. My husband said it would take alot of drinks to get a buzz and as soon as I took a drink I begged to differ. All I tasted was rum....wowee!

Shortly thereafter the rest of our party arrived. Everyone grabbed their drinks and by noon most were wasted. We then took the taxi back and stopped into Senor Frogs for a coke and nachos before returning to our ship. This was our first formal night and my daughter who felt the effects of the run more than anyone else was not seen again till the next day. Mad

It was a great day and I would not hesitate to return to the beach on our next visit. Cool

We haven't done it yet, but my husband and I are taking our first cruise in January on the Imagination, and booked this excursion.

I'll post when we get back, and let you know how it is.

Take the $4 cab ride to the Atlantis.....and if you feel lucky go to the casino:-)....you can see a lot of the fish for free...the grand tour is around $19 and wasn't worth it...lots of walking around the hotel....I just sat and looked at the scenery and gambled a bit...and by all means, go back to the market and shop...
oh, take pictures as the ship enters or leaves the bay....first of all you will wonder how did the ship make it into the tiny inlet and secondly it's a beautiful photo op of the light house and the Atlantis in the backround...Enjoy your Cruise...
