Can someone explain cave tubing to me? It's been mentioned here many times, and people seem to love it. Is it literally just tubing through caves? That sounds pretty cool, but there must be someting else that makes it so great.

Hi Mikethekid,

My husband and I went on our first cave/river tube excursion this past March in Belize. We used Reggies. It was fantastic. First, we had a great ride to the park. There were just the two of us and Jemiah was our tour guide. He told us about the history of the country on the trip.

Once there, there was a great walk through the jungle. He stopped and pointed out some trees and other things of interest. It wasn't a challenging walk but it was very warm and we were carrying large tubes. (We're in our 50's and not as fit as we should be).

Once in the river, it was just awesome. The water was very comfortable and you are guided into the river and through these caves that have amazing formations. The little light you wear on your head lets you see your surroundings. There are little fruit bats way up on the ceiling of the caves, but they didn't fly around at all.

Once the cave portion was over, we went further down the river and that was almost a religious experience. I have never experienced such beauty and quiet in my life. It was so relaxing and awe-inspiring.

It was the highlight of our cruise. I'm so glad we did it. You'll have to try it.
