We're going on Explorer Nov. 2 and looking for a RCCL snorkeling excursion. Which ones, in your experiences, have been the most colorful and interesting?

We're considering the Catamaran Sail & Snorkel in St Thomas or the Pinel Island snorkel in St Maarten.

Just got back form St Thomas. Took the St John/Trunk bay. Snorkeling at Trunk Bay was not what I expected. They mention a marked trail. The trail is marked by 3 bouys in a triangle. You swim from one to the other. At the bottom of the sea are little tombstone style markers that have some discription of the coral or fish. There are about 10 of these markers. If you wear glasses you will not be able to read them. For the money paid and the time wasted it is not worth the price. You wait in line at the dock with everyone going on a ST John's tour, the boat ride is about 30 min, not that enjoytable, you then get on a bus that takes you to the beach, about 20 min. you have about 1 hour to snorkel or hang out at the beach. You have to take a cold shower before you get back on the bus. At the end the bus driver has his hand out. You get on the boat and ride back to the dock. When you get off the boat the crew is standing there with there hands out. My advice is to go on a party boat that will take you snorkeling in some deep water

On St. Thomas,Take a cab to Coki Beach, Lots of fish. Bring some bread to feed them. Easy cab ride back when you want to leave.

Coki Beach has the best snokeling in the carib hands down. Bring large dog bisquits for fish feeding. You will not belive the amount of fish.
Stay to the right of the beach area.

I gather this is not a RCCL shore excursion? I couldn't find it anywhere.
So, you just take a cab to the beach and rent gear from the locals?
One of our ports is Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. We can get to Coki beach when we dock there?

Laura it is not an excursion with RCCL. You just grab a taxi.

Forget about the overpriced ship's excursions. Take a cab to Coki Beach-there is a vendor there (who spent time in Queens, NY) will rent you beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear and there is also food. Take dog biscuits with you (although he sells them also) and buy a disposable underwater camera from Walmart to bring with you.
