Costa Maya is a Port of Call on a cruise in March. I've never been there, so would love to get suggestions from folks that have been to Costa Maya. Did you like it? What is there to do? Also, what is the temp. like in mid March?

We went in April two years ago, and found it completely delightful to just enjoy the beach. The shopping was decent and you can bargain away! It's beautiful water and gorgeous white sand. We walked into town a bit and enjoyed the most amazing Margaritas while everyone else swam with the jellyfish. So...it's a good sitting beach, not so sure about swimming.
Have fun!

I went 3 yrs ago in April, we got off the ship approached an independent snorkling tour, we haggled the price down, hopped on a bus to Tequila Beach. The snorkling was a bit slow to start, but for the $ we paid we were ok with waiting. We went to a good reef, the guides were patient with my young nephews who were nervous. It was so pretty!!! after getting off the boat we had yummy snacks, fresh salsa and cheap beers we did some shopping there on the beach. It was a great day for us, I could tell there was alot of developing to be had in Costa Maya, hope it is still as nice as when we were there.

Pretend that Costa Maya will be like a cruise-ship private island and all will be fine! There is a nice tourist village at the pier and several beaches offering day packages. I was there 5 yrs ago and look forward to see what has changed. We plan to spend the day at Tequila Beach or something similar. If expectations are more than sun and fun on the beach, this stop could be a bit disappointing.

Good analogy - Costa Maya to a private island stop. The port was essentially created out of nowhere to provide a new place for ships to visit.

actually i'm glad they are building new ports for the too many ships out there to visit...i have heard of st. thomas having 14 ships in port on one day...grand cayman can also get swamped with 4 or more ships visiting at the same time....more docks are good, even if it is in the middle of the hurricane disaster zone between cancun and belize...they can send cabs and busses to take you to the mayan riviera. right now that area is extremely overpriced, I think they should lower prices during rebuilding. In a couple of years it will be right again. thats why cruises to this area are so cheap...nothing to see but the ruins (modern or ancient)

St. Thomas and some other places can indeed be a place of total chaos when many ships appear on the same day. Of course the ports can control this if they wish, such as Bermuda. But then the almighty dollar reigns in the decisions made by the leadership of these places.
