Has anyone heard about the Mercury being sick. I have read on some other sites that the Mercury has had a large number of the passengers get sick on the last 3 cruises.Has anyone else heard about this?

Oppis Very iteresting. The Mercury had 2 bout's in 10 day's. That is not as bad as reported on another site.It look's like royal carribean has had the most so far for 06. Of course they have a lot more ship's than celebrity. Tom

I was on the Mercury from March 6 to 17th, 2006. I came back home sick as a dog. I probably contaminated people on my flights back. I did not have time to report it to the ship's doctor because the symptoms started the day of disembarkation.
But Mercury is not the only ship that has problems like that.
I was wondering if the fact that they take in water in Acapulco (7th day) and Manzanillo (9th day) if that does not contribute to the problem.
Sorry community. From German to German. Mainquestion: Is it a serios problem? We are booked in July on Mercury.
I don't think I'd be blaming all the sickness on the ships. As Karen said it has been a nasty flu season. It was right around mid march my husband came down with it, and passed it on to me four days later. And we haven't been near a ship since Feb 7th.
I took a cruise on Mercury of Celebrity cruise lines. We left 3/27/06 from San Diego for 11 nights on the Mexican "Riviera". It was eleven nights of hell. The two cruises prior to ours had norovirus outbreaks. 107 became sick on the cruise prior to ours. AFTER they get you on board ship they spray EVERYTHING with bleach. Get it on your hands or clothes and you are in trouble. I walked into my bathroom on the first day, sat down on the toilet and it was totally covered with wet bleach. I could barely see in the mirror to shave. Some people got sick. Don't know how many. DO NOT GET ON MERCURY!!!
Why is it that some line's have more problem's than others? Celebrity is a small line in comparison to some of the others, but yet they seem to have more sickness than alot of the others!Any idea's as to why? Tom

The cruise lines are held to a higher standard with the CDC than hotels/restaurants on land. They have to report illnesses if it reaches 1%. It may seem like some ships have more reports. But the size of the ship will be a factor here. The Mercury carries 1840 passengers at double occupancy. Compare that to a Royal Caribbean Voyager class ship carrying 3835 passengers double occupancy. Both ships could have the same amount of passengers ill and the Mercury would have to report where the Voyager wouldn't. I also think the age factor could be looked at. Are the ships being reported more the ones that carry more older clientel that are susceptible to virus easier? Just a thought.
