Sounds like an excellent itinerary. You get Italy, Greek Islands, France, plus a few well positioned, relaxing days at sea.

Celebrity is an excellent cruise line. These days, an "older" ship may mean 10 years old, but it's in fine shape and will give you a terrific cruise.

Enjoy!

Sandy

Tom Ogg and his family will be on that exact same itinerary on the Galaxy in June. Look for his detailed review when he returns for a current report. The itinerary is excellent and on such a cruise, I consider the ship secondary to the shore side experience.

You will love that itinerary! We did the same itinerary except Livorno/Florence/Pisa on the Galaxy. We were on another cruise previously and visited Florence.

My favorite port was Villefranche (next to Rome). The scenery was spectacular there. Monaco is gorgeous. We booked a private tour there and everyone said it was their favorite day!

Let me know if you would like any further information.

Hi Med Cruise Rookie. We did that same cruise in June last year and I posted a longish review on CruiseReviews.com under my full name Keith Harpham. The outstanding ports for us were Mykonos and Santorini. It was the first time we have been to the Greek Islands and they are spectacularly beautiful. We hope to return next year.

Although I cannot comment on the itinerary I am able to give a little input on the ship. The Galaxy is an older ship. If you are looking for a brand new sparkling gitzy bold bright ship, this is NOT the one for you. I highly recommend that you look elsewhere.

We, our family of 6 (3 generations) spent 12 nights (6 days at sea) on her at Christmas time and after having read sooooo many negatives, were not expecting much from the ship. We were pleasantly surprised and really didn't find any problems. A LOT of people have a beef with foggy windows in the Stratosphere Lounge, but didn't bother me, we never went there. We probably visited all of the other lounges at least once and they were all fine. Like Sandy the moderator stated, "it's in fine shape".

With quite an extensive cruise history for the 5 of 6 of us sailing, we all agreed that the food and service was among the best we have ever experienced on any ship (including others in the Celebrity fleet) anywhere at anytime.

Also forgot to add that we are sailing her again this Christmas with an additional 4 family members...

Hi Mike, We are also cruising on the Galaxy in September. Our last cruise in Feb was to Panama Canal and it was aboard the Galaxy. Initially we were disappointed to be going on the Galazy again BUT only because we love exploring new ships but now realize we can immediately go to our favorite places on board. It is not a new ship so you won't get the 'brand new' experience but like comfortable shoes, you soon come to appreciate the comfort. I would give the Gal 5 stars for the cleannliness and service shown to us. I suffer from mild sea sickness and require some bread/butter to ride out the bouts. Our room steward had it there for me each nite. We really enjoyed our wait staff and hope most of them are still on the ship when we board in Rome. Have you booked any trips yet?

We are travelling on the 11 night Sept 25th Cruise from Rome - Greece and Turkey. It looks like an excellent itinerary. I have not made any shore reservations yet - just waiting until I have paid in full then will go on line. Any suggestions for trips would be appreciated. Also any comments on the ship - recent also welcome

I just got off her a couple of days ago and will do a MEGA review on her. She is showing signs of wear, but overall we had a great cruise. One annoying thing is that they have started charging for shuttles into town. As an example they want $7.00 for a round trip shuttle into Mykonos. We simply walked to the front of the port and purchased bus tickets (the bus stop is right at the gate) for 1.10 euro and also treated ourselves to a beer with the savings. The same is true in Livorno with the exception that now there is no way to walk from the ship to the port entrance, so one is stuck paying the $7.00 to be dropped downtown and then catch a taxi to the train station. On the return, you can take a taxi directly from the train station to the port with no problem.

It would be hard to not have a great cruise on the Galaxy in the Med. Enjoy!

Tom

Just came back from my june 12 Eastern Mediterreanean cruise aboard Galaxy. It was great. Yeah, its an older vessel but I wasn't too particular about the littlest detail. The ports were awesome. The service was excellent. The food was great. With only 2 seadays, it was a pretty busy itinerary but well worth it. Have fun.
