This morning Celebrity Cruise Lines announced the beginning of a new upscale cruise line:Azamara cruise line, the first ship entering service is a 710 passenger liner named Azamara Journey, to be followed by a second, sister ship the Azamara Quest in October.
IslandCruz-This sounds like it is going to be quite a pricey operation but a smaller, deluxe ship definitely has a market.I wonder just how expensive it is going to be!Chef Ken sounds like he is ready to book!
Pricing isn't that bad for what you get. Look at these prices for a 14-day cruise! These are two of the R series ships from Renaissance Cruises.
I am interested in this new venture - although it is mostly a rebranding of the Celebrity Xplorer venture. The thing is we always cruise with our son and these ships don't appear especially kid friendly although they do accept bookings for minors.
IMHO this new cruise line is basically an Oceania Cruises clone. RCL wanted to buy Oceania last year but they didn't get them so they're now launching a direct competitor, instead - even using the same class of ships.
I agree with Raoul They changed a few things so not exactly like Oceania but very close. The pricing for the longer cruises are close to Oceania's prices with their 2for 1 fare& free air something that Azamara does not offer (yet) The only good part is they do Bermuda
Time will tell. Oceania cruises sell out pretty quick so there may be a market for this line
Roughly about $150 a day is not too expensive. What makes it a challenge for most of us in the US would be the length of the cruise where a large number of us take 7 day cruises or less.
just wondering about the two ships - looks like the BLUE DREAM and BLUE MOON from Pullmantours?? How many owners did these ships already have now and why. I remember Renaissance, Delphin, Pullmantours, how long will this ownership last? Are these cruisers that attractive???

Chef Ken, I guess is not too much for the service and itinerary. I am used to paying under $75, but that is Carnival. You make a good point about the time off for this length of cruise. One can only dream and plan for something like this someday.
Not so good of a debut for Azamara Cruises. The voyage of the Azamara Journey from Bayonne to Bermuda was delayed 24 hours. It was supposed to leave yesterday but is now supposed to leave today. Apparently the ship still had "cosmetic" issues to resolve, including some cabins not being ready. They offered a full refund to anyone who doesn't want to take the shortened cruise.

Some people are on board now so looks like it is a go! They got a full refund and free cruise for this trip. who would not go!!!
Maybe just the smokers will jump ship ...they did not tell people there is limited smoking areas ...only 2 until the announcement Friday on the "NEW LINE" . So people are canceling future bookings
thanks for Your (funny) answer - it needed some seconds until I understood, but now let's see wether they'll really keep the boats for 18 years. Only a few smoking areas - that sounds good in my ears!!!!

LHT, if the thread you highlighted is any indication, there are just as many very happy campers as unhappy campers regarding the Quest's no-smoking-except-in-allowed-areas policy. I agree that it will be interesting to see if they have more problems than usual filling a 710 passenger ship that has a restrictive smoking policy.
