I am a former cigarette smoker, so I can understand the issue and emotions involved. But I have to say that I am pleased with Celebrity's move.

It's great news for most of us but now I'm worried that it'll drive the smokers to my favorite cruise line -Princess- who has yet to correct the smoke problem on the balconies even after the fire that started them to thing about the problem.

I am a smoker, trying to quit, but am glad they are limiting the areas. It is a fair policy. They will still have areas for smokers to go. I don't smoke inside my cabin, but have smoked on the balcony. I can understand not wanting people to smoke on the balconies, though. I am very careful and always take a glass of water with me, but it doesn't take much to start a fire. I usually would only go out on the balcony when we were in port. I am sure the other cruise lines will follow suit, and as long as there are a couple of places smokers can go, it is very fair and better for all. Maybe one day soon, I'll be an ex-smoker, I'm working hard to achieve that goal!

As the commercial on television states..

If you aren't planning to quit smoking, What are you planning?

But fair is fair...there should be a smoking area for those who smoke..but it should be hard to get to......

This is slightly off topic. One of our nearby towns has adopted a no smoking law for public areas. It has been very controversial.

As someone that also needs to quit smoking, the new policy seems fine to me. I have often wondered how they get the smell out of the cabins.

I will be shocked the day when SC actually passes a law to prohibit smoking. They seem to be one of the last holdouts & I won't even bother stopping overnight or eating in the state when traveling because of it.
They don't do much except when someone complains & then use some sort of a ionizer which supposedly gets the smell out.

All of the Marriott branded hotels are now smoke-free. Alot of the restaurants are as well now. You are right though, it is one of the last hold outs.

Please give us another visit. Smile

Getting back to the topic, I noticed the new policy also limits smoking in the casino to designated slot machine areas.
