I have heard rumors that folks inquire about (and possibly get) upgrades as soon as they board ship, Does anyone have any experience with this?
My wife and I are sailing on the Summit on April 9th (Hawaii - 14 days) and would die for a Sky Suite. We are booked for a conceirge class stateroom. Any suggestions?
We would appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Dennis

If a sky suite is available you can go to the information desk and ask about an upgrade, but do be prepared to pay the difference. Check with your agent to see if any suites are available at this time. Also, dont count on getting an automatic upgrade for no cost as the cruiseline will try to sell it before sailing.

Thank you Carol, that is good information. I am hoping that the difference will reduced due to a last day sale of the fare. It would be nice to have a bigger stateroom for a 14 day cruise.
Thanks again!
Dennis

We are leaving in April from Galvaston on the Galaxy for a Panama Canal cruise and weren't all that thrilled with our cabin assignment. Is it possibly to upgrade while boarding and if so how would you pay for an upgrade (from outside to balcony)). If possible does anyone know approximately the cost difference?

diablo, Contact your agent, if there are any available cabins you can purchase the upgrade before you even get to the port, if nothing is showing available then as soon as you board the ship go immediately to the information desk and inquire about any available cabins and if there are any available you should be able to purchase the upgrade. If you just want a different stateroom in the same catagory you are sailing contact your agent and ask them to contact the cruiseline to get a cabin change. As far as price goes, it depends on the going rate at the time the ship is sailing. You would pay for the upgrade or cabin change with either cash or credit card at that time.

I upgraded on the Millenium from Concierge Class to a suite after I boarded but before the ship sailed no problem. Yes we had to pay for it but nothing close to what the charge was in the brochure or ahead of time. (We did check.) We got lucky in that when we went down to inquire about upgrading - after we had boarded but before the ship actually sailed, we happened behind another couple who was also looking to upgrade. They were in a suite but looking for a Royal Suite and we wanted their suite. The desk staff had a meeting about it and came back with offers for both - and we had to take it as an 'all or nothing' deal obviously. That couple got their huge Royal Suite and we got their previous suite. Everyone was happy and it was only $175 for us to upgrade which they just charged to our shipboard account. If they have the room the ship will sail anyway so why not get something more from a passenger? I suppose it didn't hurt that all four of us interested were past passengers in either the 'select' or 'elite' level - whichever is higher. (I always forget with them.) It never hurts to ask.
