Yeah....don't rush me as I'm getting off from my cruise the week before to Eastern Carr...:-) Just foolin with ya....I hope to make the trip to the big ditch some day as well. My folks went, brought a book back on the history of the canal. I never could put it down until I finished it. AMAZING PROJECT in that day, in that era.
Get up onto one of the outside decks early on the day you approach the first lock. The decks will be mobbed as everyone will want to watch the transit.
thank you for the "heads up"...we have a room with a large veranda....i;m hoping that be sufficient to view the canal passage. i have been told to read "a path between 2 seas"...im looking for it now
This is one of our favorite cruises and hope to do it again next year. Thye usually have a lecturer on the loud speaker as you tranist the canal. Very informative, but as was said lots of people and noise. We enjoyed it the most from our balcony in the early afternoon. I went up to the buffet got a nice plate of finger foods and such and we had a bottle of wine while we cruised thru. If you are on the side of the ship that you will pass other ships going thru at the same time, that can be fun also. We had someone on another ship hold up a big sign to us, got the banoculars out and it read" you are sinking" we were being lowered at the time. If you check Discovery Cahnnel, every once in a while they have on Modern Marvels, the building of the canal. Absolutely amazing to see some of the old pictures and film.
thanx for your input...we have heard only wondefully positive feedback about this cruise. We will be on the starboard side. i will check the discovery channel for viewings.
We've booked the Rosario Island Tour in Cartagena, Aerial Tram Pacific in Puntarenas, Huatulco Land & Sea Tour, Shotover Jet Boat Adventure in Acapulco, and the Coastal Highlights Tour in Cabo. Would love to have done the zipline as well, but both of us just getting over some injuries and thought we'd better play it safe this time around. Tough to get old!
WE WERE SO VERY DISAPPPOINTED IN THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THIS SHIP...SHE NEEDS "DRY DOCK" YESTERDAY...................... WE HAD COME TO EXPECT A CERTAIN STANDARD FROM CELEBRITY................ MOST "PERKS" HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED. HAD TO HAVE WORKERS IN AND OUT OF THE SUITE FOR A WEEK...JUST CLEANING AND FIXING ...PROBLEMS.
THE HOTTUB STILL WASNT WORKING CORRECTLY AFTER A 2 WEEK CRUISE....AND 4 CALLS FOR REPAIR. I DONT THINK SPENDING SO MUCH TIME TRYING TO GET THINGS FIXED...IS AN ISSUE I SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH ON A CELEBRITY VACATION.
WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING ANOTHER CRUISE WITH CELEBRITY.
I HOPE BEING COMPENSATED WILL NOT BE AN ARDUOUS TASK.
tugz, sorry to hear about your disappointment in Millennium. You're not the only one who has been upset in her present condition. I've had several reports lately that echoed exactly the same thing. She's not scheduled for dry dock until 2009 and from the recent passengers reports like yours, that's way too long. It's certainly not what I'd expect from Celebrity either, they've always been among my favorite lines. I have recommended them hundreds of times. Galaxy was getting similar reports a short time ago. I hope this is not a sign of what to expect in the future.
