Just found out that our cruise is cancelled for 12/10. Has anyone had that experience before and what will our refund be. They told us we will be refunded, but I do not know if this will be a hassle or if I will be given the Sky Suite and the great deal that I found for this cruise. So Disappointed! Thanks!

it's probably best they cancelled your cruise...I just posted cruisers beware today, read this and you will be glad. We had a horrible time on the Milennium. If you cruise was cancelled you should not have problems getting your money back...hopefully have better luck than us.

We spent 2 weks on tme Millennium In January this year. The cruise and service were absolutely outstanding as they were on 2 previous celebrity cruises on the Infinity and the galaxy. In fact, we will be on the 12-17 sailing with my parents, daughter, her hubby and 2 kids.I am not a novice cruiser with 9 other cruises under my belt. Holland America - 2, Princess- 2, Royal Carribean -1, NCL -2, Carnival-2. Celebrity was by far the best. I would gues that Cruisers beware had a problem, didn't like how it was resolved, so he had an attitude for the rest of the cruise so no crew wanted to deal with them. We're also booked on the Constellation on 9-15/07. No cruise is absolutely perfect, especially after experiencing many others because one can see how lines do things differently, but Celebrity is consistently the best of the 6. One downside on celebrity, The dinner knives are not very shharp. I plan on bringing my own aboard.

Hi there!

My wife & I are really excited about this cruise to Easter Caribbean (Dec. 10), Cruise terminal at Fort Lauderdale.

We arrived on time (3 hrs. before) departure &
were informed - cruise cancelled. We were
devastated. You booked in advance, super ready & suddenly your happy thoughts went downhill.

We flew all the way from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale just to have this cruise.

Hope we can refund all our expenses with NO hassle or red tape with the Celebrity Management. We are so upset.

NOTE: Other passengers at the cruise terminal were NOT informed in advance about this cancellation of Dec. 10 cruise with Millennium.

Better think twice if you want to book with
Celebrity. Friends of mine like very much Holland America & Princess Cruise (cheers to them!)

R.po

SDCruiser,
Please do not take this personally but you flew across country and did not check with travel agent or cruise line on the web about the cruise? On this web site they have talked about it for 3 weeks, I only notice because we are booked to go on the Millenium in the summer. That aside I can not imagine the dissapointment you guys are going through. I do not know much about the cruise industry but I agree they should have sent you notice in writing. I hope you can get your flight money back. Did you book your flights through Celebrity? Let us know how you make out, again I feel bad for you guys, a simiular thing happened on a vacation to me with flights and missing three days of Vaca and no $$ back.

Hello there,

Thank you for your response. Nothing personal here.

This cruise-chat is a website I never heard of.
I believe it is not as big as "Google" or
Yahoo.

More famous sites than this "Cruise-Chat" & really I won't waste my time surfing 24 hrs a day on this one.

It is STILL the main responsibility of Celebrity to inform ALL passengers based on their manifesto for this cancellation. It's their job!!!

Our veteran agent was also NOT aware of this
cancellation. I won't blame her.

Take care & God speed.

SD Cruiser,
First of all, I am very sorry that your cruise was canceled as I know how disappointing that can be! However, with all due respect to your veteren agent, on Nov. 16, Celebrity did send out a notice to all agents who had guests sailing on the canceled cruise. As a TA, I act as an agent for the cruise line and when I am notified of a cancelation such as this, I do believe it is MY responsibility to alert my client. The message (which I have included, was also posted on their website):
<<Celebrity Cruises is canceling one sailing on Millennium to replace the port thrust bearing in the ship's propulsion system. The ship must enter drydock to replace the bearing, which will result in the cancellation of its December 10 sailing. The ship is expected to return to its scheduled sailings on December 17. The cancelled sailing is a seven-night Caribbean cruise, roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale.
Guests booked on the cancelled sailing will receive a full refund and a free Celebrity cruise of equal value from North America of up to seven nights, departing on or before December 31, 2007, excluding holiday and Celebrity Xpedition sailings. Travel agents will receive full commissions for the cancelled sailing, plus a $50 rebooking fee per stateroom when their clients reschedule their cruise.
"I sincerely apologize to our guests for the disruption this cancelled cruise will cause them," said Dan Hanrahan, president of Celebrity Cruises. "We will do everything we can to assist them onboard other sailings. Millennium continues to operate safely, however, this is a matter that can only be addressed through repairs in a drydock."
Celebrity has established a special help desk to assist guests and travel agents with rebooking, air transportation, land tours and other issues. That toll-free number is 1-888-281-9343.>>

BTW, cruise-chat is just a discussion forum - NOT a search engine like Yahoo and Google.

Nancy

@cruisers beware

U seem to be over all a "negative-thinker". But please do not spoil everybody 'round here with your subjective, personal problems. You lost your luggage cause you didn't take care of it - you don't like the Celebrity food - Best way to get rid of your nightmares is a therapy.

Is there any Christmas joy out there?? Everyone has a right to express their opinions, and voice their issues with any cruiseline. We don't have to agree with them, but they DO have the right to express them.
As long as we choose to travel, there will always be problems somewhere!!

The purpose of my posting to BobSabresFan was to share MY experience about my cruise with him. Whether you liked my answer or not is really not of your concern. I feel that unless if you've personally gone through having your personal things stolen then you can fully empathize with my experience. Yes I was mad but have now moved on. It just was very disappointing spending over $25,000 on our honeymoon which we looked forward to for months turn out as it did. Like I said, it's water under the bridge and I wanted SabreFan not to feel bad that he's missed this ship. SabreFan I hope you have a better vacation on the other cruise you booked.
Have a great holiday. p.s. I would still advise you lock your lugguage and tape it too before leaving it outside before disembarkation. If customs has to cut it to look inside they will have to re-tape it with some sort of government labeled tape.
Cheers!!

My husband & I travelled from KC to Ft Lauderdale 12/10/06 for our Millenium Cruise. On arrival in Ft Lauderdale we were notified the cruise had been cancelled in November. Royal Caribbean (parent company) admitted not all passengers had been notified. I actually have emails from Celebity confirming my reservations in late November. I was able to print my immigration forms & boardng info pass on 12/09/06. Celebrity screwed up, passengers did not. They are sorry for the inconvenience, I'm sure. Big deal. They are now paying for 2 nights in a hotel, our airfare from KC to Ft Lauderdale, our meals, and a complimenary 7-day cruise to be used before 2007. We will not use that though because we will never book a cruise on Celebrity in the future. They are too many competent cruise lines and nobody needs that kind of aggravation! Holland America is the best cruise line and we will continu future voyages with them.

JAK I was wondering did you only find this forum after the "cruise" or did you lurk (only read and not write) here before too??? These forums are often very helpful even before you cruise. We are still a relative small board but even so we catch things too and sometimes passengers read things here and when they check it up with their TAs they often find that they are on a call list.

However all cruiselines screw up sometimes it just does not always have to be you they screw up with..... Every cruise line in the world has humans working for them (thank goodness) and like you they too can make mistakes... Let us also not forget mass market cruiselines may look very much alike but it is the little things that make each line different. Not all passengers will enjoy each line equally - it is almost like th e pot looking for the right lid....

I Googled to see if anyone else had had this happen to them with Celebrity. This site came up. Don't worry - I won't access the site again!

JAK, You have a free cruise for 2007, full refund for 12/10 and air and hotel paid for. Why would you throw away a free cruise? I know there is a bad taste for Celebrity but take advantage of their olive branch, what's to lose?
Hope you take advantage of the free trip.

They left us stranded for 4 hours in Ft Lauderdale. We had to find hotel rooms on at the same time 2 other cruise ships were putting up 2000 guests in rooms due to unexpected norovirus. We had to find our own transporatio. When we finally found a representative from Royal Caribbean, they offered nothing - not even an acknowledgement that there was a problem. During the 4 hours we spent in the Ft Lauderdale Airport waiting for transportation home, we came up with a list of acceptable reimbursements. Yes, Royal Caribbean agreed to the compensation, but they made no attempt to offer it to us. They were more than willing to let us get on a plane & go home. I agree with you that they ultimately came through for us, but this was our 17th cruise (first with Celebrity) and the stress and aggravation involved were unnecessary & could/should have been avoided. PR is a big part of their game & somebody dropped the ball.

I just wanted to mention that Celebrity has been more than gracious in helping us plan our next cruise due to the cancelation of our Dec. 10th Millenium Cruise. They gave us notice much before the sailing date. I do not understand the confusion for those who did not receive their notices, and am sorry that they had such trouble.
Problems happen with all forms of travel, and I feel that Celebrity has done it's best at handling this issue with us. They continue to call us to make certain that our new plans are what we feel comfortable with. I appreciate all they have done for us to correct this problem.
Looking forward to our new saling date for Feb. 11th. Hope to hear from other sailors joing us. R & J

After reading this thread, I am left with one firm resolve. There is no better reason to book with an established cruise professional than as is documented here.

All of the cruise lines do an excellent job of communicating with cruise professionals. I don't even sell cruises and I received the same notice as Nancy Norris and the notice was also posted to the CruiseAgentDigest that cruise professionals use to communicate among themselves on a daily basis. The notice of cancellation was discussed in this forum, as well as most of the others (CruiseCritic.com, CruiseMates.com, etc)

It is difficult to understand how someone could be put in the position of those that traveled to Ft. Lauderdale unaware that the cruise had been canceled unless they had purchased the cruise from an agent that was completely oblivious to the cruise industry.

Here is a word of advice when selecting a local cruise professional. Find out how knowledgeable they are as a cruiser. Find out how many cruises they have actually taken and if they have cruised the line and/or ship you are looking to experience. Find out if they participate in the CruiseAgentDigest or other cruise professional forums and digests. Find out if they primarily sell cruises, rather than general travel to everyone. Don't trust an agent just because they work for a big travel agency, it is there individual committment to their profession that counts. Finally, access the peer to peer cruise forums that will allow you to access the most current information regarding your ship and cruise.

I hope this advice can help everyone in the future.

Tom
