I will be sailing on the century in less than 2 weeks, I am so excited!
Don't have many expectations, except clean rooms & good food. Will be taking our 3 yrs old with us. I know CC is not for kids, but we plan on keeping him with us mostly and just relaxing and enjoying our time together.
I will appreciate if anyone can give me an idea of what to pack or what not to miss on this ship. I also have a question regarding medication for sea sickness. Do we need to carry the medicine or can we get it on the ship?
I went on my first cruise last year, a friend said that they heard that ginger root would prevent sea sickness. They were correct as we had one rough night and it really helped. You should be able to get it in the vitamin isle at your local department store. Also, being outside or being able to look out a window and watch the horizon will help.
In the Navy, when in rough weather the cooks would put out sardines with mustard on them and saltines. Allegedly this was to help those with motion sickness keep something in their stomach - assuming you could gather enough courage to eat the danged things. Then there were those of us who felt it was a sick joke being played on us.
The ships will provide dramamine, but by then it is too late since you need to take the stuff before the motion sickness happens. Motion sickness really isn't a problem on most cruises and I think many people worry so much about it that they talk themselves into being sick.
funship freddy, sorry for getting off-topic for a second, but I notice you've been on a lot of Princess, Carniva and RCCL ships but on HAL only once. I have been on most of the Princess ships but am sailing on Veendam next summer. I know Veendam is smaller and has fewer amenities--for me, that's a GOOD thing--but what about the food and the service; how would you compare HAL and Princess? I would appreciate your (and anyone else's) thoughts. Happy sailing!
