Celebrity is more formal than Royal Caribbean despite their common ownership. They are serious about the no-shorts policy in the dining rooms as well as some of the other public areas on the ship in the evening.
But, if you and/or your kids would like to wear shorts to dinner, Celebrity offers a nice alternative -- a sit-down meal in the buffet area complete with waiter service. They suggest a $2.00 gratuity, and reservations are recommended.
Is the sit down buffet like the windjamers on R.C. You have to make a reservation for that type of casual meal and tip. Are you speaking of the normande resturant. WOW this is diffrent. Were going with a lot of R.C cruiser that are not going to be to pleased, even for the informal buffet area. THanks for your help. Iam a firstimer on Celebrity. Any thing else I should know.
Lola, I haven't been on Royal Caribbean in a while, but your description about the Windjammer in the evening does sound a lot like what Celebrity offers in its buffet area.
The Normandie Restaurant is something different -- it is a specialty restaurant, more on the upscale side. Reservations are required, and there is a $30 per person charge, not including drinks.
thanks for the info. I guess we will be packing a lot. We always dress up for the dinners, but on casual nights was more flexable or you just went to the buffet. But I guess that ones out if you have to make a reservation. Do you have to make a reservation for lunch we alway dressed very casual for that.
No reservations needed for lunch in the main dining room. (In fact, it is so underused that you can walk right in without a wait.) Yet, be prepared that they may frown on shorts there at lunch, as well. At least that was the case on our Caribbean cruise on Infinity two years ago -- but was not the case on our just-completed cruise on Century in Europe.
I don't think this would require much more packing in terms of quantity. I would want to change out of clothing I'd worn on a shore excursion, anyway.
Just got off the Summit this morning. In the evening up in the buffet area called the Water Fall Cafe you have several choices. The port side of the ship had the area to make a reservation and order off a menu. Suggested gratuity $2. On the starboard side they offered pizza, pasta, stir fry, salad, and sushi. The seating in that area was totally open.
THANKS.. I was waiting for someone who had just gone on the Summit. Kids, they don't like to dress up too much. I called Celebrity and they said Tuxedo on formal nights and suit and tie on informal nights. So we hope, we can get away with polo shirts (guys) and dress pants on casual nights. I just hate to over pack for 15 days.
