First timer here.
From what I've been reading in the magazines, cruise reviews, listening to people talk.....etc, I've concluded that on Informal nights, men must wear a jacket, tie and slacks to the evening dinner. Surely, this cannot be the case.

What's the scoop all you veterans of the sea?

On informal nights, my husband usually wears a nice dress shirt and slacks. Shorts are normally not permitted in the dining room. On semiformal nights, he wears a jacket, shirt and slacks.

A jacket is required on informal nights, however a tie is not.

Men will be fine with dress slacks/dockers and any collared shirt such as polo shirts, Hawaiian shirts etc.

Here is the official word from Celebrity. (Scroll down to the bottom for the definitions.) The confusion stems from having three classifications -- formal, informal, and casual. Jackets are requested on the informal nights. Celebrity is among the last of the mainstream lines to make this distinction -- even HAL abandoned it a year or so ago.

Thank you all for your replies. Blotter threw me a curve however. With all that I have read/heard, "semi-formal" is a new one. Where is that in the rank?

Historically formal meant men wore tuxes with white ties; semi-formal was black tie; informal was dark suit. I believe in some cases guests wore white jackets at formal events to distiguish them from the waiters although most waiters wear the short coat. But all of that is becoming obsolete these days...
