We are taking the Galaxy out of Rome in the fall for an 11 night Greek Ports Cruise which also includes Istanbul and Kusadasi in Turkey. Can anyone tell me if U.S Citizens and/or Canadians need a Visa to enter Turkey and if so does this have to be obtained prior to boarding the ship or does the Cruise Line make arrangements for its passengers at the Port? Anyone who has been on this trip- help!!!
Hi...We were in Turkey two years ago (US citizens) and took a cruise out of Istanbul and through the Greek Islands. We DID need a Visa when we entered Turkey by air, but were never asked for Visas in Kusadasi or Bergama. The cruise line or your travel agent should be able to give you updated information on Visa requirements. Suggestion: You can easily tour the old quarters in Istanbul by yourself with a good map. However, I would strongly advise booking a private tour in Kusadasi. There is so much to see, a tour guide is inexpensive and none of the tours cover the areas you can see on your own with a guide. Have a great trip!
Tom, Do you have any recommendations for excursions/tours in Istanbul and/or Kusadasi. Should we take on the the cruise ship tours or set out on our own?
We have some friends who took a private tour with another couple at Kusadasi - they loved it. We want to do the same, and want another couple (or two) to share.
Thanks everyone. We have now received all the info we need.. The Cruise ship actually makes the Visa/Visitor arrangements so no need for us to do anything before we leave.
you'll be in transit status, so you do not need a visa for going ashore (day visit) if you are going to disembarking in Turkey, they you need a visa. I believe. Have good time!
