Has anyone done the ports of Dover, Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Holyhead, St.Peter Port, and LeHavre on a Century cruise before?
Any recommendations about ship vs. independent excursions? Any helpful tips from someone who has visited these places within the alotted docking times would be appreciated.

I haven't cruised to these places but seeing as I live in the UK I can give you some suggestions.

Dover is a busy port with cross channel ferries to France there are some places to see in Dover if there are coach tours out into Kent they can be nice as Kent is lovely county (county is roughly equivalent to a US state or Canadian Province but normally a lot smaller).
I haven't been to Cork
Dublin is a beautiful city and well worth a visit local sites include the Guinness Brewery and the University.
Havent been to Holyhead or Belfast.
St Peter Port is on the island of Guernsey which is small and friendly and well worth a visit.

Thanks for the reply. I think we will try to take the train from Dover to Canterbury and spend the day there. Maybe we will have time to see the castle in Dover before we return to the ship. I have arranged for private tours in Cork, Holyhead, and Belfast and will just explore Dublin on our own.I am excited about being in your part of the world. Any idea about the weather we can expect the first week of September?

Weather in u.k. beginning of September is usually very pleasant- quite warm and sunny. However, british weather is notoriously unpredictable, we have had a terrible summer this year. I would say certainly pack a raincoat!

If you can get in to see Belfast City Hall do it. It is beautiful.

Canterbury is a lovely town do try and see it - Enjoy your stay!

we cruised the British Isles last year. Would agree with Paul on Dublin; incedibly vibrant city; 2nd to the Silicon Valley in U.S. for computer chip mfg.; the old part of city is still intact and gorgeous and YES the Guiness factory is still there! Belfast, on the other hand is still an industiral port city; don't know about the city hall; but, we chose to take that oppoertunity for the "out of the city' tour. Out of Holyhead you might want to see St. Michael's Mount and/or Polperro........

Thanks for the input, Mike. In Belfast I ordered 2 Black Taxis to take us to Antrim Coast
and Giant's Causeway. In Holy head, we also have a driver and minivan to tour the coastline and castles.I booked full day tours and will leave it up to the driver/guide to show us the sights.I spent months doing research and making decisions, it will be great to leave it to someone else to do on the actual tours.
I would never have been able to make these choices for my group without these cruise chat rooms. I will be happy to pass foward what I learn after my return.
