We are planning a cruise on the PRIDE OF AMERICA / ALOHA : I’ve read somewhere that they have an HAWAIIAN ambassador on board, who leads hula classes, or demonstrates how to make a lei and offers other activities related to the history /culture of the islands .

Has someone heard of / watched these Hawaiian classes /crafts ?

THANK YOU so much anyone who can help !

Hi kuipo, welcome to Cruise-Chat. There are always great on board activities. Hula dancing, lei making, teaching you how to play native Hawaiian instruments, history/cultural lectures, etc. Just check your newsletter that's left in your room daily for times/locations. Best wishes and welcome aboard!

Thanks for your answer!
We have been on the Constitution / Independence / Patriot years ago and enjoyed very much those activities. By any chance have you got (or know how to get on internet) a copy of the daily newsletter?
thanks
Laura

Sorry, don't have one. I tried to figure it out on their website and didn't see anything either. Maybe you can call them to see if they could send you one.

We were on the Norwegian Wind April 2006. We did have a Hawaiian lady who was just wonderful. No one could pronounce her name so she went by another one that escapes me at the moment. Something like Lucy or Peggy. The weather was so cold on the 7 day sail back to the mainland that we were all inside most of the time. The wind was so bad you could not walk. She taught classes everyday from beautiful leis to kukui nut leis, paper flowers, braiding, beading and much more. Even the men joined in. She kept us all entertained. Quite a funny lady and of course she did the hula for us. She did tell us all about Hawaii and growing up there. She told us about the Hawaiian alphabet which has fewer letters than the normal one. I knew it but can't remember now. Getting old! Sniff Wave

Kuipo - we've just returned from an 11-day cruise on Aloha.
Yes there is a Hawaiian ambassador on board, he holds lei making classes from 5-7 each/most evenings in the Cultural Centre on Deck 7 (twixt atrium and shops). You don't need to book (just turn up when you fancy) but there is a charge. He also holds hula classes (no charge). The Cultural Centre is an open area on Deck 7 with glass cases full of information and artifacts and a film playing on a loop, starting at the firt volcanic eruption that created Hawaii. Cruisers can choose to sit and watch the film in one sitting or just stop-by every day and take it all in in bit-size pieces. Smile
