Hi everyone, I am new to this chat board and I have a few questions in regard to the Majesty. I have been reading reviews of this ship and it seems that there are far more negative reviews than positive ones.

This will be my second cruise, the first was on the Norway 17 years ago. I already know that the Majesty is only a little more than half the size of the Norway so I am prepared for a smaller ship. I am just a bit worried about this smaller ship on rough seas. From what I understand, the seas are currently pretty rough and I wonder how it would be on the Majesty which departs from SC on January 28th and heads for the Western Caribbean. We have a superior outside stateroom on the Majesty Deck which, I believe, is the 6th deck??? We will have our 9 year old grandaughter with us and I'm wondering whether we should take something before the cruise to help prevent sea-sickness if the ride ends up being a rough one. Has anyone here been on the Majesty during rough seas? If so, exactly how bad did it get? When we cruised on the Norway, we felt very little movement and most of the time we didn't even feel as though we were on a ship. Once in awhile you could feel a tiny bit of listing, I guess you would call it, but we never even got remotely close to feeling seasick. If anyone has any advice out there, I'd certainly appreciate hearing it. Thanks.

Hi Donna, and welcome to cruise-chat!

We've been on Norwegian Majesty several times, and will be going once again this coming summer. We've also sailed on SS Norway, so I can offer some comparisons.

First, as far as the weather, Norwegian Majesty does not handle rough seas the same way as SS Norway -- then again, no ship can. On our most recent Norwegian Majesty cruise, we sailed through a Category One hurricane, and there was definitely motion to be felt, although I've been in far worse on other ships. Relief came quickly, though. We've found that apples do wonders. I've also had some luck with the pressure bands, yet I hear I'm in the minority on that one.

Your cabin choice is fantastic. Our first cabin was located there. We had 620 years ago. It is a good size for two adults and a child. Your granddaughter can sleep in the upper berth that folds out of the wall, or she can do what our son likes and bring a sleeping bag for the floor. This deck is convenient to just about everything.

I'm happy to answer any additional questions. There's something about this ship that keeps drawing us back.

Lisa, thank you for replying so quickly with all the good advice. I did buy the wristbands and I also bought a box of Bonine and a bottle of Ginger capsules and Gin Gins (Ginger Hard Candies) because I had read that they help, too. I have never heard about the apples, though, so I will keep that in mind as well. I am so glad to hear that you traveled through a Category 1 hurricane on the Majesty and did okay. Did you feel queasy at all at that time? I don't think I'm prone to seasickness but I would imagine if the Majesty does quite a bit of rocking and rolling, I might feel ill. Well, thanks again for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

I did feel a bit queasy during the storm, which kept changing from a category 1 to a tropical storm and back. We were traveling to Bermuda, which is a tougher route than the one you'll be doing. The apple remedy was taught to me by a crew member years ago, and it works for me. I felt better within minutes. Ginger tablets are great, too.

The best place to be on Norwegian Majesty if the seas are rocky is on Deck 5 between the coffee bar and the lobby. This is a very stable part of the ship, being that it's in the center of a middle deck. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit, as well.

I just thought of another question to ask you. You said you also had a cabin on the Majesty deck and liked it. I had studied the deck plans when I chose our cabin and I liked the location of Majesty Deck because it was just one deck above the Diningrooms and Purser's Desk, etc. but I was a bit worried about the fact that the Casino is also on that floor and that the Casino is rather noisy. I am not extremely close to the casino, I am in cabin 640 which is close to and considered midships, so I would say I'm a fairly reasonable distance from the entrance to the casino so I am hoping that the noise won't disturb us at night, once we do decide to go to sleep. I was also a tad concerned that we are directly below the Promenade Deck which has that jogging track directly above our outside cabin. I was wondering whether you recall having heard the joggers in the early morning hours from your cabin? I guess I can also try and pack earplugs if necessary but I really don't like earplugs and would rather not have to use them. Any input regarding your experience having an outside cabin on the Majesty Deck is appreciated. Thanks again.
